Not sure if anything has been posted with regards to the above title, but I came across the following with regards to freight crime.
Drivers
As some of you may know, Yesterday I attended the quarterly RHA Security Forum at the West Mercia police headquarters in Worcester.
Now like most people, I generally go into these meetings with the opinion that 3-4 hours of my life will be spent listening to a lot of “big cheese’s” talk about how they are going to change the industry, eat a bit of free buffet, then return 3 months later to talk about the same things over again with very little/nothing being done in between.
“So however was yesterday any different?”, I hear you ask…….
There were various presentations performed by various people (not all Big Cheese’s!!), but it must be said that the general consensus around the room was the same;
How we deal with the increasing problem with freight crime in the UK?
In fairness, the police did eat quite a large chunk of humble pie, admitting that they couldn’t keep an eye on all that was going on due to lack of funding and resources, so needed assistance from the industry. With representatives from Truckpol, CMPG (Central motorway police group) and Freight crime solutions as well as myself of course, could we be the people to possibly help with this?
Around 3/4 of the way through the meeting, Chrys Ramply of the RHA brought up the Motorwaybuddy app, what it had achieved so far, and allowed me to underline the capabilities of what we as drivers can do to help. With the new additions of crime reporting, I made it very clear that the best place to gather information was from the horses mouth i.e… the drivers, but at the same time, drivers as well as hauliers haven’t got the time to report a incident/crime where a police officer takes 30 minutes to get to you, then 30 minutes to interview you, where upon a report gets “filed” and you lose an hour of your working day in the process.
So what is going to happen over the coming few weeks?…….
I am giving the the various groups named above access to the reporting page (where the information goes to) so they will be able to put together a map of where and when freight crime is taking place, thus being armed armed with the information to do something about it! This is obviously where you come into the picture. If no one sends the issues to the portal, then nothing will get done, plus I will look like an idiot!!
I feel I must make it clear that I am making nothing from this financially, but having spent a long time traveling up and down to Scotland, and having been a victim of fright crime a couple of times, thought IF I can do something to help, then why not!!
I’ll get my rewards in heaven!!
Keep it safe drivers
Cheers
My apologies if there has already been something on this, but thought I would post it regardless. Many thanks.
