Revised hook-up/drop-off procedure

Yes they are always stupid ideas because we’ve done the job for years & don’t need anyone reminding or telling us what to do. That’s what I would tell the two drivers, both experienced class 1s, who dropped their trailers onto their knees last week in seperate locations, except 1 got sacked on the spot, agency, & the other sent home & suspended pending an investigation. Just a moments distraction & your in the brown stuff, or worse.

well if the agency was a regular and has his head screwed on he’ll go for discrimination :open_mouth:

Exactly, and the more bull crap they come up with and boxes to tick the more likely it is for things like this to happen, good drivers get in their own routine, leave them be to get on with doing what they do well.

Experience doesn’t always cut it, not everyone is cut out for our work, i’m sure we’ve all had dealings with drivers who have been doing the job years and we are frankly amazed that any bugger actually passed them as fit to hold a licence in the first place, some of them bloody terrify me.

I’ve lost count of the number of bone idle useless sods i’ve seen who approach a trailer and reverse up to it and straight under in one movement by mirrors alone, some of our lorries bear the scars and dents from overshoots done this way, i’ve watched a by the book driver hit the front of a trailer umpteen times till i, the agency scumbag at the time, pointed out to them that the level (instead of flipped back) fifth wheel was ramming UP the front of the trailer, they looked at me gone out**, but then looking at the rest of the fleet it seems quite normal there…more H&S in that yard than you could shake a stuick and few with the slightest clue how to drop an empty properly, let alone pick the loaded bugger up.

All the memos in the world from memo man won’t make the slightest difference to planks like this, they shouldn’t be doing the job, period.

that same place, they issued me with a Scania one morning, whilst checking the oil i noticed one of the front cab mounts was broken (regular Scania weakness so i always look), went back with the keys…oh take it to our bulb fitter (i kid you not) to have a look at will you…yeah course he probably keeps one in his back pocket i thought…so i dutifully went round to see him and lo and behold he VOR’d it, but after quesioning me why i was even asking him…here let me borrow that brick wall so can bash me head against it will you.
Now some twerp had driven that the previous day and probably all week and nobody noticed the offest bouncing that happens when a front mount breaks
…and you think a bit of reminding and tweaking from memo man is going to make the slightest difference there?

I just leave the handbrake roof make it easier to get the yella thing on

Lights I just leave to the to polis keeps em in job ?

Mwahhhhhhhhh

To much ■■■■■■■ about nowadays just hook up n go count the tyres don’t kick them

Personally I like to leave it keys in engine running and a if I’m feeling particularly bored that day ai leave the handbrake off on the unit to spice things up. Race the rolling truck across the yard is a great way to keep fit

It’s ok Daytrunker you don’t have to feel obliged to be outraged on everybodies behalf. I’m sure the comment was tongue in cheek. But thank you for caring though.

‘…the cat walk light MIGHT NOT WORK near miss it …’

Top-tip & cheers, Nick I did so last night

Both the cat/deck and the brake lights are switched (via ignition) so I raised a Safety Concern each for them both - citing the revised training criteria as the cause.

As suggestions, I submitted that whilst the former is installed as a safety aid, checking the latter is a legislated requirement and one which I do by directly looking at them because the convex (and very cheap & tiny) rear-light check mirror by the yard exit is too prone to sun-reflection and too late to do anything about if a light is suspect.

I also amusingly suggested that they rewire their fleet to unswitching those lights on the fleet (of 90-ish units) to accommodate their supposed training needs - so let’s see what emerges :unamused:

Although I’ve got a head-torch, I’m stuffed if it’s getting taken to work to mange their buffoonery and whilst it’ll probably be a waste of paper, a note to the Union rep might get sent too

Good grief. While I’m here I have a friend who’s a Nigerian prince, he needs to move some money to the UK, if he can use your account he’ll give you £10,000 as thanks. PM me your account details.
