Pat Hasler:
I seriously don’t know how anyone can mess this up FFS
In 36 years driving trucks of every size and type have I ever messed up when changing from Artic to Rigid or vice versa. In the same text travelling across the Atlantic and switching fro one side of the car to the other has never bothered me either.
Its another Story when you never drove a Rigid before

How do you manage to achieve perfection?

Nobody is perfect, I never said I was so where did that come from ? All I said was it’s never bothered me and I can’t understand why it does others.

Drove one of these for 12 years 2 steering wheels and a swivel seat, left the job in 2007 and spent the next 2 years re-learning how to reverse a trailer.

That’s a fair machine. What does it do?
What engine does it have?
How many punctures did you have in those 12 years?
How much do tyres cost?
Was it good money?
It’s a slab carrier used in the steel industry, caterpillar V8, quite a few punctures the rear tyres cost Michelin about £12,000, yokohama about £7000 when the machines were new they would comfortably gross at 220 metric tonnes. Money o.k if you did the O.T, sorry to go off topic folks.
Santa:
If you like a challenge - try reversing a car with a little luggage trailer on the back.
[zb] that! Unhitch the bloody trailer then reverse the car.
I have tried…and failed.

Interesting. Thanks. Love to have a drive of one.

Ditto.
And I ended up doing exactly the same thing.
I know it works on WnD principle but with smaller turns.
It’s something that’ll always beat me I reckon lol

Well,I was turning off the main drag in a small town onto a side-road,with a 45 foot trailer on.Cars parked on near side so had to go out past them.An old boy with an astra towing a wee luggage trailer came round corner towards me-thought this is going to be akward!
The old boy just cranked it into reverse and set off backwards at speed–■■■■ me this must be the world’s best reverser thinks me.No.Looks up and the trailer is trying to detatch the back bumper.
He left me enough room to get past,I think that when he watched me as i went past, that is when he remembered the trailer!

Small car trailers are easy to back if they have a long draw bar. With a short draw bar they’re a pain. Definitely do not work on the W&D principle, but are just the same as 45’er.
I have no connection with Pat Hasler, but at least he has had the balls, vision and desire to improve life for him and his family by getting himself over to America.
Something many here would like to do, but will never achieve through apathy.

I have 1 of these…

And 1 of these…

And 1 of these…

And they’re in order of dificulty for reversing.
The caravan is really easy, especially if I drop the anti-snake bar off 1st
The motorbike trailer is quite easy with a bike on, but a pain without 1 on.
The tiny trailer is a real pain in the harris, but was good practice and a good game to play on a car park with ya mates
Yes that matchbox size short draw bar trailer must be horrendous. You won’t even be able to see it from many vehicles until its already bent too far.
Have you thought about putting a whip aerial on the back of it with a little pennant flag so you can see it?

Don’t use it that often to be honest, but yeah if you can see it, it’s too late. Same with my wag + drag a-frame at work, it’s a few inches smaller than the truck, so if I see it, it’s gone
Re car & small trailer, few weeks back stopped at burger van on A228 made a right pigs ear of reversing car & trailer didnt have the guts to tell the artic drivers who were taking the p**** I held Class 1(in old money) or C+E! (didnt you love the old style HGV licence with hard covers it looked the business!)
