I have these sensors on the rear of my car but I need to fit a tow bar, now it’s a fair bit cheaper to fit a fixed one as opposed to a detachable tow bar so does anybody know if it will interfere with the sensors ?
I have asked about but cannot seem to get a confident answer.
I have an Smax and worried about the same problem so I had a detachable one fitted, when its in place it does not interfere with the reversing sensors.
Ok thanks for that.
Depend what car it is,but on the ford if you use the ford wiring loom is switches the rear sensors of when your trailer or caravan is plugged in.
Otherwise the dealer can place a switch so that you can switch the sensors off.

I’m just worried that if i fit a permanent towbar the reversing sensors won’t work properly due to them sensing the towbar.
With a towbar you don’t need parking sensors. back, back, back, bang. Job done.
thought that’s what mirrors were for
A towbar shouldn’t affect the reversing sensors at all. They are usually built into the bumper and will not be able to “see” the towbar.
hiya,
I drive a Toyota Corolla 2006 vintage this car has reversing sensors as standard
I have had a towbar fitted and there is no problems with the sensor detecting
the towball the sensor only become “live” when reverse gear is selected.
thanks harry, long retired.

Yes i’m well aware it doesn’t become live till reverse is selected but your telling me when you do select reverse it doesn’t sense the towbar are you? If so sounds like i might opt for a permanent one then.

hiya,
Yes I’m saying reversing sensor isn’t affected by the permanent towbar as fitted
to my car, but the sensors work normally when car is driven solo.
thanks harry, long retired.
Got sensors and a fixed towbar on my Combo van, and get no problems with the sensors picking up the towbar.

Thanks everyone for your input static towbar it’ll be then.
They will not be affected. So your ok no matter what car you have.
I have a 280 Merc with a detachable tow bar and the sensors are not affected by the presesnce of the tow bar or caravan.
Thanks for the info having it fiited tomorrow.
