Did a subby job for KNDL last night down to Foston. Tipped on bay 8 and reload on bay 15. So I pulls off bay 8 swings to the right, to reverse back to bay 15. There’s a guy on bay 14 so the number was out of view from where I was. As I’m starting to curl the trailer in I see some KNDL units parked up in a line where bay 16 would be and I’m thinking to myself it’s a bit tight this . Pulled forward to straighten up and started reversing again, then I noticed that the green light bulb was out on the bay and made a mental note to tell them in goods in . I got about half way back, keeping parallel with the guy on bay 14 and then the shunter driver picking up the trailer opposite starts flashing and beeping at me “there’s no bay there mate!” he shouts . Bay 15 was another 100 yards down the yard in a separate block. Guy in the truck on bay 14 is wetting himself .
That’s the second time I’ve done that now. First time was at Phil Hanley at Belle Aux Park.
Hands up who’s a so-called professional driver like and has done the same. \o/
just because you use logic doesnt mean they did when they numbered the bays/buildings/address etc. im sure they do it just to ■■■■ us off as there is rarely any other reasonable explanation for them being out of sequence
Haha classic. I was told to ‘go on the ramp’ at Willand RDC as I had only 1 pallet. I reversed off the road past all the bays to the ramp at the end, as I started to turn I got out to have a look as it was super tight! After some head scratching I went and asked the shunter, ‘do they expect me to reverse up the ramp?’ he laughed and said the ramps there for the forklift truck to collect your pallet!

The bays are in sequence, there’s just a 100 yard gap of wall between 14 and 15.

I know exactly where you are, I used to tip some stuff from Scotts and the bays are weird. Monday morning at 8am the yard is a mess and it is difficult to get a clean bite at the bays.

That was one of those career decisions that we all regret, from living with an alcoholic Lesbian in Banbury to meeting some old trout in Ashby. I came to Derbyshire to follow my heart, she broke it in small pieces and I haven’t found the will to leave yet. DHL was a means to an end and I regret that too…
Just passing through till something better comes up
What if there had been a child, or worse a couple of children standing in the gap next to bay 14? It’s because of reckless idiots like you I’m going to stop posting. Call yourself a driver.
Never backed onto a non existent bay, but did manage to put myself on slot 18 instead of 19 in Tilbury at 4am the other week. Took a while to work out why my box was hanging behind the empty bay next to me
I made an error at NFT, Crick, Security told me to go on iirc Bay 15, looked up at the bay on the end of the building bay 13 so drove round the other side only to find bay 14, 12 etc! I had to go out the gate and all the way back into the site where I’d come from because one side the bays are the even numbers and the other side is odds! Bizarre way of numbering if you ask me!

That’s how they number houses, have done for years. In my road they are numbered consecutively, just to be different. This causes just as much confusion because delivery drivers etc expect it to be odds one side and evens the other.
In our yard if you are coming from dekit to loading it means either a blindside on the bay or screwing it round for a sighted reverse. If there is a big enough gap opposite and nothing big on the bays you can come down and swing it round to do a straight line reverse on the bay, I did just this, came out of the turn pointed dead straight at bay 15, I was halfway on it before I remembered I was supposed to be putting it on bay 14. Also we have a bay 10 that has a number, door, traffic light and leveller, complete with lines and bananas but the bay is a dummy and has portakabins behind it so no chance of anything coming in through it. Before the shunters shed was put there we had several people park vehicles on it.
