I never reverse into things. But last night, I backed into a pallet of plastic granules in bags in our yard at head office (someone had left it just in front of a trailer, in an unlit yard, and I just never saw it). It made a right mess … plastic beads everywhere. Then when I got back to the yard, I clobbered an armco barrier with the trailer bumper.
My only excuse is that I was distracted by my other half being in hospital all night (turns out there’s nothing wrong with her), but I was still annoyed with myself. I suppose everyone has off days.
Do not worry. It is part of the job.Every driver has done it.
And like you said, other things on the mind.
Never take a truck to a farm at night.
Farmers are hoarders and collectors of junk that they leave in a turning circle to get out of the farm.
Never drive in the grass. They like leaving machinery that will pop all the tyres.
Children and dogs running around is another hazard.
I have hit safety barriers by an office.
Another driver reversed in to a car in a layby.Car pulled in behind the trailer in the blindspot.
granules will sweep up, bumper will straighten most important thing is your missus is OK.

That must make it difficult to get onto unloading bays.
And you missed out the word “usually”
If it helps it turns out my back end swing kissed a car last week, very minor but the first car I have hit in near thirty years
I was doing a blind side reverse into a customers building a couple of weeks ago and reversed straight into a big yellow post that I hadn’t seen when checking the area I was using to reverse. As soon as I hit it I thought it was a car but was really relieved when I saw it wasn’t. Thankfully it only bent the handle for the twist lock
Was talking to an ex colleague in the week, and he was saying one of the lads at his place parked his car in front of his Daf on a Monday morning, loaded his kit into the truck, fired her up and pulled off. He got about 3 feet before the loud bang reminded him he hadn’t moved his car yet.
I was chatting to a work mate when i was in my car and promptley reversed into my own trucks tail lift
I was in a Volvo 850 at the time it nearly wrote it off

On a similar note, I once drove over my bag, complete with ipod, mobile and sandwiches. The ipod survived unscathed, amazingly, which is more than can be said for the sandwiches.

Hmmm, (puts on his Sherlock hat) cheshire.police.uk/news–ap … orage.aspx
When I used to drive tippers, one of my fellow drivers backed into the site portaloo. All four of us drivers rushed over to right it and get it back in situ before the site agent noticed. It was only when we got it upright we realised the site agent was actually inside the portaloo.
I used to work with a bloke on tippers who couldn’t enter a site without clipping the pedestrian barriers either going forwards or reversing.
I tend not to back into things often by I did back my van into an ifor Williams plant trailer the other day

That’s the stuuf. The firm who own the pallet I backed into are one of our regular customers … I was staggered when I first discovered just how much their product is worth. £1200 a pallet! I was tempted to pick up a handful of the spilt granules and stick them on ebay.

500 tonnes? How many artic loads is that? Not to mention forkies having to load it.
I once craned a low pallet of 20 rolls of turf on to the road just in front of my bumper where the customer requested. Grabbed a signature, had a quick chat and with a cheery wave jumped back in the cab and promptly drove straight over the pallet.
On that occasion I SHOULD have reversed.
Couple of months ago I backed into a building in Glasgow - right under a cctv camera
I hope Albion ain’t reading this!
Hiya i know a chap who thought he’d park the front of his Volvo amazon under the front of a parked trailer
just to be out of the way a little…oops he forgot about the pin, it missed the windscreen but put a tidy crease
in the first 3 inches of his roof. the car was like new with not a mark on it…TILL THEN
John
One of our drivers a few years when doing a shop delivery reversed into a phone box!
Thankfully no one was in it lol
Bollards, lamp posts, fences, gates, cars, signposts, hedges, a helicopter, crazy golf course, a stage with a band playing, a duck, a gypsy having a wee, and a massive yellow church in Hungary are amongst the things I have reversed into!

LOL-I did that too, put my bag on the n/s front wheel of an FEL while I unlocked the doors & forgot about it, did the usual walk round check (in the dark, without a torch) & promptly drove forward with a slight bump !
Then it ‘clicked’- I thought that my whole life just got wiped out, phone, Satnav, wallet full of cards, butties, flask, everything !
Every thing survived apart from the flask, the bag was a Euro Hike Revolution Aqua & lasted for a few years after it’s accident (just knackered one zip) I’ve even replaced it with another Euro Hike Revolution Aqua, brought second hand off eBay.
