Reversing, insurance and not so funny conection

I am at the moment in a company collecting some pallets. Only posible way out from the company is reversing on the A420 main road. The road is busy and not straight, cars are doing about 40 m/h. When asking the manager in the company to stop the traffic so I can get out safely, his answer is: our insurance doesnt cover that …
What u would do ?

Refuse to move the truck till its sorted out.

and what than, when the swearing, shouting, name calling starts… from this manager here or my menager owerthere ?

Grab a couple of people off the sreet or drivers and get them to control traffic while you get out, Or stick all your lights and hazards on and come out very slowly

Next time consider reversing in

Just a thought

Steve

You should have reversed in so you could drive out onto the main road.

Anyway now you’re in there, if you really feel it’s unsafe to reverse out, reverse until you’re completely blocking the gate and wait until you can get someone to help you to reverse out safely.

Whatever you do don’t get into an argument with the manager or anyone else.

Thx on your solution. thats gona be the end. I just cant untherstend, is someones insurance covering or not, more important than someones life. I asked the manager here the same question, didnt got answer on that …

PS: I didnt know and it wasnt visible from the road that there is no space to turn.

So next time you come to a yard that you can’t see in to, what you gonna do ? :grimacing:

The same thing I guess, I dont think there are so many inssurance over life guys out there  But seeing also another day the mate who had call a fire brigade to get him down from a trailler, makes me wonder :unamused:

You need to get out and have a look next time

Block the gate, when he asked why you blocking the gate, tell him you’re insurance is rubbish as well because it won’t let you reverse into oncoming cars and killing people.

hazards and edge slowly out but put it down to a lesson learned.

or slap the manager for being a prick and change jobs :open_mouth:

^ Are we building up a clear enough picture for you yet “drive”?

or become very good very quick at reversing into traffic :open_mouth:

I had very similar and anyone that has been to Ryder rentals in west brom may have also experienced this…
I was given the postcode and as you come up a duel carrigeway with double red lines your sat nav says turn left…but tight but do able, looked down the bottom of the street before committing and saw a load of wagons parked up in a yard,no bother I thought that’s the place.
So drove about 500 yards down this street, gets to the gate that’s on a bit of a angle and the bloke comes out and asks if I’m after Ryders,I say yes to which he laughs…“it’s the next left mate not this one”,this is where my issues start…the yard is tiny and rammed full of rigid so no where to spin it.only option was to reverse all the way back and back it out onto a busy duel carriageway,I managed to accost a taxi driver who watched me out but it took a few shunts to get it out due to street furniture !

Also, if in doubt - reverse in. Better to look like a plonker reversing into somewhere unnecessarily than making a scene having to reverse out onto a main road.

If your talking about a very busy D/C and nobody is willing to help you reverse out, last resort is phoning 101 and getting the police down unfortunately. No way i’d chance reversing out solo.

The “I’m not insured” line is just a load of BS trotted out by people who don’t have the intelligence to get into a discussion.

I had a scenario where I was in a shop that belonged to our local football team, so not some small little operator. My 3 year old needed the toilet. I asked to use theirs and they refused saying it was in the staff area and we wouldn’t be insured as public weren’t supposed to go downstairs.
I duly told her that she was talking bollox and that thee would be no such clause in the insurance policy. She was adamant it existed.
I then pointed out the stairs we weren’t allowed down to access the toilet were also a marked fire exit route and asked if customers had to burn in the shop while staff made good their escape if there was to be a fire.
In the end they relented, but it was all unnecessary.

Dial 101 and ask the cops for help - they will come out when available - I did exactly that at a temporary traffic light operation situation some years ago and I was coming out forwards

When I had reversed in I held up the traffic behind for some time as it was tight and during this the lights changed so the TOTALLY DUMB traffic from the opposite direction who could see the situation decided that they had a green so they proceeded … OH YEAH!! - ended up with two opposing lines of traffic facing each other in a temp traffic light controlled one lane road

Did not want that to happen when I came out so the cops blocked off both ends until I was clear

I would not mind betting that when the buisness was given planning permission to operate there it stated that all vechicle should enter and leave in a forward gear.

Do you reely expact him to stand in the middle of the road to help u reverse out? He’s not got no right to stop traffic on the public highway anyways. If you can’t det out then u need to call the police.

Call the police? Come on really? The chaps made a mistake, prob shouldn’t have driven blindly in but he did so that’s the situation.
I would either try to find someone to back me out or if not I’d probably reverse very slowly out with hazards on and someone would realise the situation and stop to let me out.
There must be a foot path or something between the yard and the road so what I might do is reverse trailer onto it and then place my warning triangle in the inside lane and reverse out, all done slowly.
Calling the cops wouldn’t even enter my head
