I have question . i do next week driving assetment some company.basicly it is driving about 20-40 min ,coupling/uncoupling and reversing.my reversing not bad .but if i need shunt 2 or 3 time .do allow instructor this???or can ask him before -if me requared how many time possiblle??
It’s one of those how-long-is-a-piece-of-string questions. If the tester is sensible, and most are, he will understand that you are nervous and make allowances. A reverse takes as many shunts as it needs. If you have to do a blind-side reverse then don’t be too shy to get out and have a look - much better than hitting something which is a sure way to fail.
Treat it like the driving test. Do all your checks before you get in the cab and take your time.
Good luck
to get out and have a look
yes.of course.but if reversing at RDC must swith off engine,or can just aplly to parking brake.and go out and check??

im trying to think of any rdc where youd need a lot of shunts, there must be some but im struggling to think of any i go too that are what youd call tight, but if you need a shunt /2 then take it.

common sense would be id of thought would be to turn engine off, take out keys, lock it whilst your on a assesment,to me it doesnt look good to jump out, keys in ignition, motor running, door wide open,i know we/i do it sometimes but on a assesment your trying to give the right impression, doing the above wouldnt give the assesor the wrong impression id guess
I’ve done a few of these and to be honest you should have nothing to worry about. It’s usually just a basic drive with a reverse onto a bay. They may ask you to virtually jack knife it onto the bay to make sure you can get on a tight bay but that’s about it, never been asked to blind reverse. just carry out the full checks at the start and enjoy, it’s an assessment not a test remember, you already have the licence.
Only time whilst on a assessment I did a blind side reverse was for Canutes when I worked at Wilkinsons, they asked me to blind side into a parking bay but theres was nothing parked either side so loads of room!! As said by previous posters take your time and act professionally after all you are selling yourself to the assessor - cue rude remarks lol
When people have an assessment at our place it’s a quick drive around the local ring road, come back, reverse in this bay, reverse in here and done. That’s DHL.

The only people who remember them are those who can’t do it
