As has been said starting position is key , pull up to where you think you are going to reverse from then go forward a bit more , the extra space gives you more manoeuvrability. Also don’t oversteer let the trailer do the work gentle steering adjustments stop the trailer wagging as it goes into the space and if you feel it won’t work pull out and try again as the more time you spend trying to adjust the worse it gets , a fresh start works easier .
Basically the more you do it the easier it gets but even then you still have good and bad days .
I used to try to back in diagonally then swing it round at the last minute, but I’ve learnt that it’s much better to do it in a wide arc so you’re coming in square. Nice and steady and not too many adjustments. And if you get your start point wrong and your going to under/overshoot the space it’s sometimes better to abort and start again rather than try to correct.

No chance of anywhere different for time being. We only have a handful of artic runs. More rigid runs. But its all good. I’ll keep practicing in services and looking like a ■■■ for now. So if anybody sees me Micheal Wood or Gloucester Services, I won’t be offended if you come over and laugh.Do I take it that you are driving a mixture of artic and rigid at the moment, if so, this is probably not helping
But as others have said, take it steady, no medals for a quick reverse if you leave a trail of carnage. Allways look out the window to get your marker points, mirrors can be deceptive, though your eye should get used to the deception over time, hence why some can blindside reverse and others cant.
To be honest it matters not that you are struggling at the moment, fact, you know you need to get better, and are improving by virtue of taking on board what experienced drivers are telling you
. There are plenty of drivers, who with years of driving, haven’t improved, because they don’t want to ask or be told, or don’t care
There was an old foreigner trying back in at Cambridge services, I was watching him back but he hadn’t got a clue what he was doing. How the fôok he’d got to that age without learning the basics is beyond me. Fair play to him for getting the lorry over here I don’t know how he managed it tbh.
I’m really surprised with all this so called tech about atm… smart phones, sat navs… some of the new guys and the ones having issues with reversing start using wireless camera’s linked to there so called tech to make it easier

A camera wouldn’t make much difference if one can’t get the things to go where they want them to in first place. I find the camera handy on a rigid for checking for people behind me. But I can reverse a rigid. Artic on the hand, I could aim for people on a screen and still miss at moment.
So in summary, a camera wouldn’t help me personally.

I’m thinking the way technology is now, you could have a drone in the cab, with a wireless camera. You pull up to your delivery point, let the drone out, it flies above the trailer, and gives you a birds eye view of your back end of the trailer, via a screen in your cab. It would hover itself, you wouldn’t need to fly it whilst driving…
Would cost a reasonable amount, but think how much it could save in insurance costs.
