Reversing and getting stressed in Sutton Coldfield

If you are on here , the rigid curtain sider young driver from Knights of Old who looked like he was stressed beyond belief trying to get in a tight gateway Near the Porsche garage and snagged the wagon on the fence in the ■■■■■■■ rain Take a deep breath next time …IGNORE the cars and GET OUT AND LOOK IF NECESSARY…I had to stop the traffic and help him take a second bite at it With a few shunts , I do hope there wasn’t any real damage …
Just don’t let the cars panic you and calmly carry on they will just have to wait!

Helping some one out … Good for you Sir

Very well said mate and fair play to you for helping him, not many would do that! And you are right, he must be inexperienced, always ignore the people in the cars who who are getting frustrated, its only a few minutes out of their day, get out and look as many times as you need to, take as many shunts as you need, do everything you have available to you to ensure you do not hit anything.

I’m sure he is going to learn from that and if there was any damage to the customer property or his companies wagon it is going to be the hassle of interviews, disciplinary and retraining, plus the hours the staff in transport will have to put in and the customer dealing with the incident.

At least it is only a fence/gate he caught and hopefully he will learn from that and get out and look multiple times/ask for a banksman next time

As above +1 cheers Ray

I used to deliver to that Porsche garage every night. You’d nkt believe how insecure it used to be :open_mouth:

A sad indictment to the modern ‘‘driver’’ (or complete wonker who thinks he’s a driver) but sadly true.
Complete contrast to days gone by when every driver helped each other out in whatever way they could as a matter of routine.
Nice one o/p for helping the lad out, as many of us would,.and do (we’ve ALL had to learn) …there ain’t many ‘‘proper drivers’’ left.

Vw contract out of tamworth? Was you there when it was ceva? If so we might know each other. Remember roger (think thats his name) who liked to take his family out to show him his new drops whenever he asked them to change his run?

Nah I was on for Bibby doing Toyota out of Magna Park, then they took on Porsche, combined the runs and the contract suffered but I’d already gone before it got too bad. They lost the contract in the end and its now done by DHL I think…

If you are obviously struggling the folks who should be on your side are reaching for their cameras. We have all been there, just a wee bit of help, nothing physical. No one was born with ten years experience.

Maximum respect for you 3 wheeler! I’m a new driver and i can imagine what he went through. We should all be in this together. If i see another trucker struggling, i’m helping… even if there’s a cat 5 tornado coming towards me… it can f*ck off, a bro needs help.

As a new driver myself, help is always welcome.

Problem is theres a post on here this week that says it all. A new driver asked about reversing on his assessment at a Superdrug. One of the replies from a member on here basically saying it’s a sorry state of affairs if someone is “soiling their pants” over reversing. No wonder new drivers don’t want to ask for help when they feel experienced guys are just going to take the ■■■■ for asking.

That is partly why I hardly use this forum now,its a little bit cliquey and theres a lot of( unhelpful drivers?).

I’ve done the one out of Magna and yes, it was Bibby’s. Sad state of affairs for delivering. No info on getting in, pushing those huge cages up narrow paths. Hands down a parking battons to release it.

I have had a couple of PM’s from someone on here thanking me for the advice I gave them, they asked a question in the open forum and got nothing but abuse from the usual suspects.

Every comment I have made seems to anger someone for whatever reason.

Not everyone came from their mothers womb clutching a Class 1 Licence and a Yorkie bar, give the guys a break, everyone and I mean EVERYONE has to learn and good on the OP for taking the time to assist, well done that man.

We all ■■■■ up and get things wrong or don’t see something and hit it …it how you cope with the situation. I obviously learned in a different age and still have the same values , OK now a knackered retired driver but if I see some poor ■■■■■■■ trying to change a wheel I will help , even if it’s a foreigner (and I have) . I’ve spent enough hours over the water being a foreigner and I can honestly say it better across the water than here for driver camaraderie . Why the camera has to come out to belittle a driver is beyond me.
But thanks for the pat on the back .
I just hope the Knights driver has learned to keep calm and think before being rushed into a situation like that again.

I dont think that was so much having a pop at that individual driver, but the woeful standard of training and preparation of new drivers. You learn to drive an automatic around a few routes, and do a practised reverse on a large open carpark… then there is a lack of proper “on the job traing” by companies.

The problem with the old boys here (of whom I’m one…), is that they are used to a lot more self reliance, and dealing and learning with problems as they arise. The new generation are so used to the wealth of info on the interwebs, it is their first call if they seek info (or help). To the old boys that sometimes appears as if the person asking for help, cant be bothered to try or find out themselves.

Of course, it is not helpful that the patience and understanding of the old boys, is continually tested by an assortment of self styled know it alls, who leave no opportunity wasted to have a pop at the old boys… :grimacing:

Just to expand on the above…

A lot of us had the opportunity to learn as we went because most often your boss would “have a word” of varying degrees, tell you you’re a ■■■■ and tell you not to do it again.

You don’t get that these days with various protocols and procedures out of a management book, therefore people don’t want to mess up because there is often very little leeway these days.
