Reversing after passing test

For all like me who having passed their test only then to find reversing a nightmare then be patient . The company I work for has just sent me out for the last 3 days with one of the most experienced drivers with me driving . Going forward no problem reversing well on tuesday hopeless but really useful watching him from sitting on the bunk putting me in the middle of the cab so I could see both mirrors as the route he drives involves some quite tricky reverses . Wednesday I was able to get onto the last 2 bays we went to albeit with several shunts . Today apart from one place I got onto all bays either in one go or with 1 or 2 shunts the difference being do all your major steering at the very start of the reverse and the going back very slow very small movements on the steering wheel . Obviously it helps to find the right spot before you start your reverse and if room allows try and get your trailer with the back facing the way you want it go or as close as the space allows you to get .
The big thing is realising that the more you do it the easier it gets

its great the company you work for organised this for you, when I was on my new job (many moons ago), I was so proud of it as it was my first Class 1 job going out on the continent

usually went to France/Switzerland/Germany/Luxembourg/Netherlands/Belgium/Austria, I declined (back then) jobs to Italy and Turkey…

anyway I learnt the hard way (on my own) but I vividly remember the first few days  at one point being so embarrassed as I tried about a hundred times to get it right at this place in Germany where I was delivering some hanging meat. Thankfully the guys there ‘left me to it’ and went for a cuppa HAHAHAHA

And still folks say the reversing exercise on test is a waste of time. Sounds exactly as above to me.

Just sat here and thought about your comment and yes you are right  The big difference is trying to relate all your learning to concrete walls and loading bays with guides that you have to be bang on to unload . But the more you do it the easier it gets .
