Anyone know of any decent programs for retrieving passwords from your own puter?
Hmm. Well. That varies.
If you’re after revealing what is behind the stars on passwords you have typed in you can try a program called “Revelation” which will show you 
If it is for digging deeper to probe a system for all the passwords stored then you’re looking at something more heavy duty of which I do not have.
Personally I have tried the other method, which is to keep a database of all my passwords.
If it is for most online services there are ways to recover your passwords usually emailed to you…

If your looking to get an administrator password for a Win 2000 or XP machine then I might have the disk for you. I have never tried it myself but friends who have copied it from me have rated it very highly. 
As smeserver says it depends what type of password you are trying to crack.
Assuming that you do not ask windows to save a password… are there not programs availiable to search a hrd drive for pass words?

If you’ve an archive on the comptuer that you need to crack the password, then there are files for that, but otherwise I don’t know.
If you can narrow down the search a bit more and explain what you are trying to do I can go off and dig up some more detailed information…
I am struggling to remember the name of the program that I tried, about two years ago, which examined the hard drive from a floppy and came up with a list of all passwords that have been used on the puter in question (hotmail, yahoo, dial up etc) As far as I am concerned, it was only used for the puter that you were sitting in front of.
