My brother is still working at 74, despite having had stomach cancer two years ago. The builder who lives next to me is 77 (had quadruple heart bypass few years ago) and still goes out to work. My cousin was still working on a store loading dock three evenings a week, till he gave it up last year with Covid about - aged 79.
I know lots of people that never want to retire - myself included. Not work silly hours for sure, but it gives folks a purpose plus pays for a few extra treats in life.
Retired for 15 years now (I’m 76) and I still get emails and letters from agencies that I never registered with offering me jobs! They don’t even ask if I still have a licence…
Every one to his own,all depends on how you prepare your finances ready for retirement. With our combined state pension and our small works pensions we have enough to live on and have a good life without delving into savings except for expensive things we want to do. Many have said they are to young at 40 ish to be paying into pension schemes but often regret it when retirement age hits them. Like what has already been said bored because all they have done is lived to work not the other way around.

I haven’t driven for 4 years, I left to work as a handyman in a local care home. Changing bulbs and cutting grass for better money than class 1 driving, and on my doorstep? Why would I want to drive! I have kept my licence/medical/CPC/digicard all up to date though, just in case.
I’m hearing all about this pay rise for driving, so I’ve been having a look at job vacancies. Clearly, this driver shortage hasn’t reached west central Scotland yet! I’m seeing job vacancies, but the money is sometimes LESS THAN £10 per hour, class 1 days. A few are over £11 per hour, but not many. Who are they trying to kid? Then they wonder why there are big gaps on the shop shelves! Until they get real, I’ll carry on doing what I’m doing…
