Resurfacing in London - 1970

Spotted these superb clips tonight. They show the positively antique profession of laying blacktop. Great to see the lorries tipping into the ageing barber green. First one is an eight legger with insulated body, think it’s an LAD cab Octopus, the second is a Bedford with standard body, the third is an ergo cabbed six wheeler also with un-insulated body.

With the various tarmacing lads all looking like they belong in Chicory Tip, it makes for fascinating viewing! :sunglasses:

Hard grafting lads on the hand laying…and that was Trigger on the rake.
Some of the young layabouts these days wouldn’t know how to spell “hard graft”

I don’t get it, nobody has bright orange trousers on or glowcoats - did they all die at the end of the film?

The end of the 2nd film shows some roads being broken up, is that how they did it before planers came along?
