Restricted to 51mph!

Were at 84k’s, bit of a drain when its job n knock

tofer:
Ours are set at 52 but there a couple that they have missed and still do 56. I’ve noticed that I am overtaking a lot more asda and sainsburys lorries these days. It’s devils choice though, either crawl past with a 1mph speed differential and annoy everybody or back off and sit looking at the back of it for miles and miles.

I think I read in T&D that Sainsburys are cutting their topspeeds…Our old trucks seem to be capable of doing almost 60mph (V and w regs)

Simple question to ask yourself, am I paid by the hour, if you are doing supermarket work then this will be a yes, when they cut the speed to 51 they are doing you a favor and you will earn more. Try this, next time someone who is impatient overtakes you and does his best to drive like a robber mark a point in front of you that he passes and count how long it takes you to reach the same point. They are having a miserable stressed out day and I guarantee you they will not be enjoying their work, on the other hand you are enjoying the scenery listening to the radio and calculating how many hours paid you are getting for today. I have known agency drivers who have crashed good and proper and been back on the job 48 hours later, and others who don’t put a scratch on the kit but shoot from the lip and are never seen again.

I totally agree with you on the hourly paid marlarkey and i would do exactly the same in that situation, but coming from a “getaway driver for bertie smalls” i want to get from A to B as quickly as i can as the less i do,as per hours etc means i get to park up earlier(salaried you see) and i don’t have to put up with the idiots who drive to and from their work in the rush-hour who do the gas, brake, gas, brake, sort of crap, which we all see day to day, well i do anyway driving mostly round the M25
