Hi folks, not sure if I am posting on the right page but I need some guidance and info please. I drive a standard Ford Transit delivering car parts around Worcestershire. My company have trackers fitted to the vans and have noticed some of the drivers are constantly breaking the speed limits. We have all been issued with a letter that we will receive disciplinary measures if we break the speed limits which we have no problem with.Does anyone know of any other non HGV company that is monitoring drivers speeds in this way?
The nature of the business is that all these motor factors employ people who drive round in a rush to get to garages quickly. I just wondered if their were any that were stricter on speeds as most seem to endorse speeding unofficially.
Secondly can someone direct me on rest breaks. I start at 8.30 a.m. but don’t actually go on my morning run until 9.30.The first hour is loading etc.I do approxiamtely 10 drops at most and around 120 mile tops on this run obviously stopping to deliver/unload/load etc and to get Diesel.I am due out at 1.30pm for my afternoon run but regularly get back after this time(even before the speed clampdown) and therefore on arrival back at base in Birmingham ,I unload/re-load and am off again without any break until my drops are done. This is job and knock(but paid till 5.30pm) but rarely now finish early with home times in the past ranging from 3pm -6pm.Do I need by law to be taking a break other than the 20 mins after 6 hours of work? If not then I presume I only need to stop at 2.30 for 20 minutes.Does this break have to be taken promptly at this time or can I wait between deliveries? Sorry to go on Regards

You are under the ‘normal’ WTD and I think that requires a 20 min break within every 6 hours - not 100% on that so wait for one of our site GURUs to come along - it will probably be tachograph or coffeeholic
hi mate and well come to the mad house

do you have a contract and if so does it say your in your contract that you have a dinner break or you don’t get paid for a dinner break if so see how much you get, and if you want take it, but as you are job and knock some just work though and then go home early the choice is yours

I assume you’re over 18 years of age in which case as you work more than 6 hours your employer is required to allow a 20 minute break during the day, as far as I can see this can be taken at any-time during the day and isn’t required to be taken at exactly 6 hours so there’s nothing to stop you having the break between deliveries.
Thanks guys as I thought really.I’m taking the break now just after starting the afternoon run.The job and knock has gone out the window really because we are instructed to stick to the speed limits. The job is much less stressful as I just accept it will be a late one!
Still don’t know of any other company not on tacho’s that insist on their drivers sticking to the speed limits.Does any one else?
I have seen a lot of vans lately with the signs on the back saying the vehicle is limited. I’ve not heard of any specific company insisting on drivers sticking to limits but I would imagine a lot are wanting to cut fuel consumption.
