I need to get 56 server racks from GU14 to LS11.

Details:

  • Size (each) : mixture of 1000600x2100, 1000x800x2100
  • Weight (each) : approx 80kg (the units will be empty)
  • Total cube2 : 43m2

Loading point:

  • Good artic access, big loading bays but at ground level. There will be no assistance other than the site manager opening the warehouse and pointing at the ones that need to be collected. The site manager will not be able to assist with loading.

Delivery point:

  • As above, but assistance will be provided if necessary.

Other:

  • Units are delicate (mesh fronted) and so will need protection between them and round them (shrink-wrap?) either in the form of bubblewrap or blankets or whatever, and this will need to be done by the haulier.
  • Units ideally need to be transported upright although it’s not critical. If haulier is able to provide strong boarding then they could be stacked.
  • As mentioned, the units are heavy so truck will need tail-lift or ramps or whatever to load them as they will be too heavy to haul up manually from ground level.

These need to be moved out by 8 October at the very latest, preferably ASAP, but there is no urgency to get them to Leeds, although obviously I realise same/next day delivery is the likely scenario anyway.

Anyone got any recommendations for who I could use? It’s not something your average Eddie Stobart would do as it’s pretty hands-on at the Guildford end. I was wondering if I’d be better approaching removal companies?

Is it something that would go on a 45ft box trailer or is it going to need more than one trip? Cube quoted is the exact total cube of all the units. Obviously there are going to be gaps where the units don’t go tight together though, so in reality the cube will be bigger than that.

If you’d prefer to PM quotes/details directly to me, that is fine.

Thanks.

Did you try Shiply yet?

I’ve moved thousands of those things over the years, both used and new, and 56 on one trailer will be tight given the amount of protection required due to the mesh. We used to move them in box trailers, or rather computer spec trailers with each one wrapped and corner boarded and then strapped to the side of the trailer, but not too tightly or you give the racks a waist. This left a path up the middle of the trailer for cables and so on if there was any.

You can do them three across but it makes securing the middle ones a bit difficult although if properly wrapped and corner boarded you can get away with just putting a strap across every three racks.

Problem is each one is a meter in one of it’s dimensions so you will only get 13 down the trailer if you load them long ways. You will get 3, or maybe 4 if wrapping allows, of the 600 ones across the trailer but with with wrapping 3 of the 800 ones will be tight and 3 x 13 is only 39 racks anyway. To my mind that is a two trailer job.

Are any of them those with the curved mesh door? They make life a little more awkward.

Any particular reason why I should? Do they specialise in this kind of thing? I thought they were just ‘another’ curtain-sider haulier like the 1000s of others?

Neil, yes some do have the curved mesh door but they don’t exceed the dimensions quoted. You have a PM on the way shortly.

I think he is talking about the website for posting up removal jobs. Its all right but there are quite a few man and van people on there who will do a job for next to nothing (and not very well).

You would say that though!!

I’ve used it on two occasions, both times to move motorbikes between Germany & UK, with no problems (or damage) whatsoever and for a far better rate than I could get anywhere else.

BTW, it’s not just ‘removals’ - you can get anything listed/moved.

I didn’t say every one on there are bad, just some.

Red, is that the site you were on about in your PM?

How about computer specialists like Relay, or carry gently + others that i cant remember the names of?! I know they protect stuff like these blanketed and sometimes the inside of the container is carpeted too… Just a thought :bulb:

No, the one i was on about is more like Tnet but removal companies sometimes offer jobs to others if it is easier for them to do or need a backload etc…

Okay. I’ll come back to you on it soon. I’m awaiting a reply from someone first.
