Phoned DVLA to renew my digicard last Thursday was a two minute phone call, and my card arrived yesterday, that’s not bad going. Got my license back earlier in the week and that only took a week for an entitlement renewal 
Yes they are a good bunch at times.
Make sure you get all of the sticky stuff off of the back of the card before you use it for the first time or somebody will be footing a £700 bill for a new tachograph.
