anybody got any reports good or bad, looking at 3 to 4 year old ones done under 300000kms
I considered one, when I asked on here all of the reports were favourable. As you no doubt know they have a Volvo engine and driveline so have that reliability. “A Swedish au-pair in a French maid’s outfit” somebody said. In the end I got a Magnum because I virtually live in it and they do have more space inside, being slightly cramped seemed to be the only common drawback cited with a Premium but if I was putting another truck on the road where lower weight was a factor (Magnums are very heavy) then I’d have one.
as Harry said, it is Volvo driveline in them now, and that is their main selling point
even the salesmen make a point of that, which tells me one thing
if their main selling point is something from another manufacturer, how bad is the rest of the truck?
surely, they should be selling their trucks on their equipment, not the fact that it is Volvo running gear
Hi
I have 24 of them, all 460, Euro 5, between ‘60’ and ‘62’ reg.
The oldest one has done over 300000 km - as I have new DAF’s to compare them with, I have a feeling that I’ve had the best from them at that sort of kms as a DAF seems still new around then, whilst the Renault is a bit loose to say the least - build quality doesn’t compare!
However at three years old you should find them at least 10 grand cheaper than a DAF of the same age, so you would have a few bob in hand to spend on them if you have to.
Plus, I believe the ‘Volvo’ content is only the fact that the engine and gearbox area Volvo design, but a previous one not fitted to Volvo products now, but that’s what I have been told.
This week, across my Renaults every single one managed at least 8.3mpg, with some reaching 9,6 or so, so that’s a really good side to them.
Hope this helps

i was told by the main Volvo salesman that the driveline in the renault is ‘last years technology’ and not the latest spec as fitted to Volvo trucks

well they would say that wouldn’t they
Same as VW don’t give Skoda & Seat all of the good stuff!

but Skoda and Seat aren’t the biggest shareholder in VW , unlike Renault and Volvo
thanks for replys, looking at replacing a foden alpha thats getting on a bit,so cab wise be about same, renault seems value for money,09 plates for 25 grand, merc would be our first choice but the renaults a cheaper option with the job being our it is at the moment.
I was pointing out how the bigger name won’t compromise their top items. Volvo wouldn’t concede superiority over Renault would they?

Hi
Don’t give £25k for a ‘09’ plate - £20k tops for a nice one.
There is some ex Dentressangles around on ‘58’ plates choose a nice one with lowish kms for around £16.5-£17 grand - at least it would have been 100% Renault maintained, so all in all a lot of truck for the money.
Renault dealers take the michael on price - buy from an independent where you know where the truck is from, i.e. big fleet, but you will save £5 grand

Very rare for a N.D Renault to be dealer maintained
Steve
weve got loads of 2008 and 2010 premiums 450,460 hp
the 2008 are now all having 2nd axle air bags due to them chaffing on part of the axle when lifted, each bag £300 plus the saddle under it another £300
so to do both airbags £1200
also getting engine missfiring, wiring harness in rocker cover going to the injectors goes brittle and insulation breaks, new eng loom £800 and 9 hrs to fit
no6 inj sleeve cracks and dumps water to diesel and vise versa
axle 1 rear lower spring eye bushes , cat off , fuel tank off!!!
antiroll bar link bushes
cab bushes
exhaust manifold gaskets leaking
drive belts and tensioners are a “service item” every 250.000km at £400
clutch release bearings collapsing
wirirng chaffing n/s/f corner
g/box reduced function , either internal g/box pressure sensor or apu over pressurising the g/box circuit and needs a repair kit in the apu.
and renault have got the wonderfull idea of putting the UNION JACK on their dissasterous FRENCH crap
2010 most of the above faults plus major oil leak from the rear top timing chest at the back of the cylinder head ,dumps oil all over the top of the g/box and rear of eng. approx £20 on a new seal and a days labour
the premium must be the worst truck on the road, now wonder renault are stop making rhd premiums from next year (hooooooray)
the 420 dci was a much better truck
cheers for that knowall, and ramhead just shows what different reports u can get back, its put me off a bit now, will let you know how we get on.
for similar money maybe man tgx , actros , cf
