Removing glue residue?

Afternoon all,

I have just spent most of the afternoon so far removing vinyl signwriting from my van. I’m now left with a load of glue residue all over it - anybody got any suggestions as to what is best to remove this, without damaging the paintwork?

Thanks

Gary

hair dryer/hot air gun will loosen the bond then it should just wipe off

Had the same problem with a trailer, it had been fitted with reflective decals , nowt was moving it , went back to company that applied them and they had their own brand glue remover, worked a treat , 4 litres was abput £40 but you would only need 1/2 litre or so i reckon the 4 litres did 60% of the sides and rear of a 26 pallet trailer

might be worth trying somewhere like Hobby craft they do a lot of stuff and sure they would have a glue remover of sorts

Give brake and clutch cleaner a go. The stuff in an aerosol can.

Wd40 will do it

Try white spirit or cellulose thinners, just a small area to start with. It shouldn’t mark the paintwork but be careful with the cellulose as it could react with the paint !

best thing is a bit of petrol on a rag and an old credit card or tescos card

just done a van today not a bit of glue left on the van works a treat

done loads of vehicles over the years

dont use anything with sharp edges it will just dig into the paintwork

always heat the letters with a hair dryer or boiling water first and they come off very easy with most of the glue still on the letters and you only need a quick wipe off with the petrol

What I would say works great good for removing grease off the motor etc too.

WD40

Tardis from Autosmart, it’s the dogs dangly bits for removing Glue and tar of paintwork.
Spray on, soak and wipe off.
GBP 21.00 for 5 litre which would do your van several times.

Either Tardis or white spirit on a rag.

WD40

Fish oil and a secret ingredient :stuck_out_tongue:

Many thanks for all the suggestions - in the end, I had some WD40 on the shelf, so used that and it’s come up a treat!

Thanks all,

Gary

Anyone know how and why WD40 is named as such? I know, just want to give one of you peeps a chance to show off too.
