Remember to keep the back door locked

OK, it looks a bit set up but those Romanians are getting everywhere…

If only he had seen them sneak up in the mirror. Full on the brakes would have sorted that out.

It’s not set up or faked, this is common in eastern Europe.

In which EE country is that common nowadays?

Romania.

So then why do you write that it is common in all EE?

You’ll have to excuse Harry, he’s from a different era and sometimes gets confused.

Probly’s because Romania is in Eastern Europe.
So if it’s common in Romania, then it’s common in Eastern Europe by default, is it not?

Riho:

I’ve heard of it happening in Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.

I’ve never heard of it happening in Belgium, France, Holland, Luxembourg, Germany or the UK.

So I think it’s fair to say that it’s an eastern European thing.

Harry Monk:

I trust you heard it from a reliable source and it wasn’t just “my mate told me”?

cieranc:

No. If something is common in France but not in the UK, you wouldn’t say it was common in western Europe, you’d say it was common in France.

O I C, so it happens in Romania but it doesn’t happen in Eastern Europe, is that right?

No, you’ve swapped “it’s common” for “it happens”. The first suggests it happens a lot, the other suggests it happens sometimes.

When Harry was asked:

Riho:
In which EE country is that common nowadays?

He replied:

Harry Monk:
Romania.

Then in an attempt to justify saying it was common in Eastern Europe, he said:

Harry Monk:
I’ve heard of it happening in Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.

He didn’t say it was common in Romania, Bulgaria, Belerus, Russia and Ukraine.

I’m not saying it’s common anywhere or it doesn’t happen anywhere else, I’m just trying to get to the bottom of what Harry is trying to say.

Like I said, he seems a bit confused.

cieranc:

i would say it’s common in central europe.

It was a well-known and regular occurrence when I used to drive to all of those places, I didn’t find out about it on the day that Youtube video was posted.

Was Sandra Bullock driving that lorry?

used to and nowadays are separated by a few decades are they not. the modus operandi depicted used to happen up until the mid-nineties and even then it was fairly rare. and to be honest I strap my doors at night when sleeping in belgium, france and spain, not ukraine, poland or romania.

I drove through romania regularly for four years, never had anything stolen. overnighted mainly in secure ( if you had to pay something, it was secure) areas and never left the truck unlocked but still, never had anything stolen. And that was before the borders were opened and everybody with at least one leg and arm ran off west. I’m not saying that it’s the safest country but although they like to steal, if the load is worth having, there are far easier ways to get it.

Cant really see how that would work, Someone may well manage to get into the truck but trying to get anything of any value back out of the truck and into the following car must be nie on impossible as it would have to be esily liftable and fit through a car sunroof
