Registration Dates

I am trying to date an old motorcycle that has just been acquired from a house clearance.

It is a London registration from 1960 but can I be any more precise? I have managed to put it between 1959 and 1961 by the type of brakes and the fuel tank, but would like to find out the original registration office and possibly the dealer who originally sold it.

There is no log book, or at least it hasn’t been discovered yet. Here’s hoping!

Any suggestions welcome.

Try the Vintage Motorcycle Club, they hold factory records for all the major manufacturers and should be able to date it from the frame number and also tell you whether its the original engine. They could also help you to retain the number and sort out the paperwork to get a log book.

I have 2 photos from the early 30’s of my grandparents on a motorbike and we couldn’t work out the make or model. I went on the vintage bike forum and within hours I had not only the make and model but where and when it was registered.

When I was a kid in the 50’s there was a retired bank manager that lived here that had a moped similar to that one.As kids we thought it was a laugh seeing this bloke pedaling away on the banks to assist the engine, but now I think how cheap that thing must have been to run.
Cheers Dave.
