Refreshing job search outcome

If you explained to Stobbies why you were leaving, why don’t you just call and see if they will have you back? There must be someone there you made friends with and can talk to?

Just be straight with them. If they say no you haven’t lost anything

Yep, I would agree with that.
If anybody would take someone on it will be Stobbies, especially as they do a lot of food key work.
It depends how much the o/p actually wants a job. :bulb:
Given the number of posts he mentions wanting a job, and if he really does want one, it would be a no brainer I reckon.
Nothing to lose everything to gain. :bulb:

There’s a school of thought that suggests that if you were not told “You got the job start xxxday” at the end of the job interview - you didn’t get the job, but they didn’t have the bottle to tell you to your face…

I agree with that statement.

When I ring up for work and I’m told “send in a CV” then I don’t bother as they don’t have any work going. If they had then it would be a come and see me answer.

Every job, full time, casual or agency that ever got offered - was done face to face. Every “job” where a CV was requested - only involved a nuiscance phone call months or even years later, long after I’d made “alternative arrangements”. When these people “file a CV” sent in to them - they seem to only dig it out again when they are in the crap for short-term cover (casual or agency) and of course the full time positions - you get told often these days “If you don’t hear from us within a month, please assume you didn’t get the position”… Why waste money on “We regret to inform you” letters huh?

Quite frankly, I am surprised that there were little or no Labour reforms that took place during the 13 years of Labour rule ending a decade ago.

A level playing field, even chances, and no bull… Was that ever such a lot to ask - even of a Labour government? :frowning:

It is demoralizing when you get called some distance in for interview and they’ve already filled the position, but couldn’t be bothered to tell you, saving your effort time and money.
We have these “Anti Discrimination” laws - which don’t mean anything, because there is no oversight whatsoever.
Either There’s no effective Anti Discrimination in place OR it is Reverse “Positive” Discrimination, where the job has to go to someone of certain ethnicity/religion rather than nationality or ■■■■■■■■■.

It’s not a haulage job, but the company I currently work for says on it’s recruitment webpage to send them your application and if you don’t hear back, just assume you have been unsuccessful. And this is a big firm with a fully dedicated HR team (too vital to be on furlough, obviously).

Again, I just find this sort of mentality to be ignorant. I get that with smaller firms, your CV is likely to go through to the transport manager, or even the owner. So I get they have better things to do than to reply. But it’s nothing that can’t be done in 20 seconds on an iPhone.

I got an email from one of a fairly big firm’s managers just simply saying “Sorry, not taking drivers on ATM due virus. Will keep you posted tho”. No “Dear…” or “Kind Regards…”. Just that. And within minutes. Much rather have that than nothing.

When my life went downhill i was ready to walkout remember my boss saying lets have a chat before you do anything stupid . She took me on one side and said think of the kids dont be a looser its not about you only . She said i am willing to support you , your resignation i will keep in my pocket. She told me i will keep your job open and gave me time off. I was off for a month on full and got all the support and help i needed. You can do it just remember never take your home life to work and also never take your work problems home.

Downhill?, yeh I’ve been there, my lowest ebb in life was going bust (mostly through no fault of my own) losing my reasonably successful business (and house :open_mouth: ) and being faced with having to provide a for a wife and, at that time 3 young kids…with no job or income.

Worst day of my life was going to job centre/dole office being sat with a bunch of pond life and about one other genuine case,.after enjoying a good life in the past, fairly well off with a brand new house,.and Jag in the driveway.
I could have just given up, (some others have topped themselves in that situation) but instead of sympathy seeking, moaning and feeling sorry for myself , I got off my arse with a lot of determination, and made an absolute ■■■■ nuisance of myself by pestering and trying different transport firms (and during a recession) and not stopping until I did get a job.
This is why I find it hard to sympathise with complainers and drama queens, there ARE jobs out there (not necessarily the type you want) if you can be arsed to genuinely look. :bulb:
