So I learnt C+E in a wag and drag back in January but I’ve got a driving assessment coming up in a proper unit and trailer.
So being clever I thought id try to organise a quick lesson in a unit and trailer, was just after a quick coupling demo and maybe a spin around the block…
£250 they wanted to charge me!!!
That seems extortionate to me!
Anyone fancy letting me have a drive in their truck on the weekend?
Is there that much of a difference between the two C+E setups?

Answer 1 Nope coz most will be on rest period
Answer 2 Course there a difference… you took the easy route to get a C&E…Oh well… pretty much majority of class ones on the road are tractor Units and Trailers…
Looks like your gonna have to spend some money…
Like you someone wants paying, cost of fuel, insurance, tax, etc etc not to mention expert experience training…
Job on proper factor units and trailers can’t be that important then, what if a few hrs don’t cut it…
Never know what they gonna throw at you on a driving assessment …6x4 manual unit with a tri axle trailer…
As Nick’s pointed out fuel costs, time costs, insurances costs, you think that £250 is extortionate… that depends where you are…
Well done on taking the easy option to pass your test
It’s hardly a refresher to learn how to drive something you’ve never even sat in.
What did you save by learning in a W&D? Fifty quid?
And after your “spin around the block” would you be confident about reversing it around said “block” ■■?
wow this forum is aggressive isn’t it.
Didn’t save anything by doing wag and drag, it was with the same local company I did my Class 2 with so saw no reason not to support them again.
Its my understanding the general principle is the same between the two but clearly i’m mistaken and should probably just redo all my training.
I thought it was a bit harsh but the question did invite a bit of a slap down.
I am betting that if you had thought it through you would have realised that wages, truck rental, diesel and insurance would add up.
Subtract the VAT from the £250 brings it down to under £210. They are likely to block book their hours into two sessions a day for training (am/pm)
so giving you an hour is not practical as they couldn’t sell the remaining hours. So you would have to pay for a full session.
£250 sounds about right to me, possibly at the higher end of the expected range.
They are running a business not a charity after all.
I think you are either going to have to ■■■■ it up and pay or blag it. Personally £250 to give you the confidence and prevent you looking like a plank on your first job sounds like a bargain to me.

No-one been aggressive jut said it how it is. So you went for a W&D option for the sake of loyalty to a company that you did your cat C with. Did you even ask if it was the same principles as artic? You gets no points for loyalty I’m this work and there’s only one thing a training school is in business for and that’s to make money.
well the trainer said its transferable (i guess he would say that though right
) and I see a lot of training schools running W&D so thought it would be ok.
don’t get me wrong £250 is fair for what they are offering but in my naivety I thought it would be a quick affair.
Happy to admit when I’m wrong though so I’ve booked up 4 hours of training.

Transferable just means it’ll count a bit like saying being trained in gas allows.you to do plumbing… Both use pipes…
Good luck take your time your 3/4 of the way with size and length and as long as you think the unit is smaller than your usual wagon you’ll be ok

I used to have a beautiful 96 Anniversary, my pride and joy. Alas no more. Best car I have ever owned.
Refreshing to hear these opinions.

Me waxing lyrical about my mid life crisis motor?
Nowt wrong with a mid-life crisis my old Cheshire comrade. 42 myself-perfect for not growing up.
Ive not long got rid of my Focus ST. Got a nice grown up motor now. 2012 VW Touareg.
And an empty wallet.
I bought the MR2 after a deal on another one fell through. (Guy selling to to me started banging it on track days and basically nailing it everywhere because he knew he’d got a buyer on it)
It was mildly modded, and the deal was for me to buy it as bog standard. So I bought a few of the mods that I wanted to keep on it, to save him the bother of having to take them off his old car and refit them to his new one.
I had no plans to modify the Anniversary as it is still as far as I’m aware the only limited edition that Toyota has ever made. 250 in total, each one numbered. So I made sure that every mod I did on it was reversible, and kept all the factory parts.
Got to say that it drove more like a go kart that most go karts.
A load of us went to a car show one weekend, and some guy walked up to me and asked how much I’d paid for my turbo conversion.
Told him it was still a standard 178bhp n/a with a K&N and a Mongoose exhaust. Talk about Jeykell & Hyde!!!
“YOU MY FRIEND, DRIVE LIKE A (lady’s lady parts) if I ever see you on the road again, I will ram you and kill you”
His missus didn’t like him in that mood and they had a bit of a row.
He jiggered off home in a huff.
I knocked her back doors in.
Wish I still had that car, and her number.
