was collecting a load of mushrooms from Drem the other week. Set the fridge to +2. When the guy came out with my collection notes he reset it to +3. Another disaster prevented.
1 degree would hardly be a disaster, fridge temps aren’t that accurate, and some run mushrooms at +3 anyway, especially on mixed loads. When I worked at one place I had to probe the mushrooms when they arrived and temps varied a couple of degrees between the top and bottom trays often.

For a fridge to go over ambent outside temp it would need to be fit with Heaters. Then may draw to much power
It is, which is why they are capable of running at +25, although, I would assume that the ‘heat’ is actually drawn from the engine cooling system.
Thinking back to the debacle on the M11 a few years ago, where the HA ‘neglected’ to treat the carriageway and scores of people were stranded, a few empty reefers (and a stock of pallets) could have been used to keep the stranded motorists warm and comfortable(ish), providing a door was left open.
Some use the hot gas from the compressor as a heat source and not from the engine cooling system It also Transfers this gas for defrosting the coil in the reefer when on defrost

It was tongue in cheek mate, that’s why the emoticons in my post are smiling.
Meat = 0 degrees, and if on a bay, request the ‘collar’ to be inflated.
Fruit & Veg + ‘prepared’ foods = +3
Citrus fruits. i.e. Oranges and Lemons + some of the ‘exotic’ fruits = +10 or ambient
Bananas = variously up to…I’ve known 16.5 Because the process of Transport is part of the ripening process. For years I’ve been trying to educate my missus that, if you buy 6 bananas. You grab 3 that are yellow, and 3 that are still green. That way, by the time the ripe purchases have been consumed, the unripe purchases will have ripened, as opposed to having spoilt.
Bananas +14
Produce +5
Dairy products or LLC +2
All frozen -22
We can’t leave the depot with a frozen load until it drops below -10 and is still dropping. Also if when picking up a trailer it’s on auto-defrost, we go for a cuppa for 15 minutes until it returns to its set temperature.
certain fruits when collected at source, ie oranges etc are run at +3, to keep them fresh, bananas straight from the dock are run at +14 to keep them from ripening, not to ripen them as someone suggested , little tip if your running frozen ice cream defrosts at -16, ask diesel kate about this one
when changing from a load such as Fish to fruit, get fridge washed out, probably still smell abit, get cheapest jar/packet of coffee & spread thinly on floor, then run fridge on way to collection point.
When trying to get fridge dry so you can load dry goods, try leaving doors open for short while then run fridge on -2 for 10 mins, then +10 or so, leave running to collection, fridge should be fine
when picking up a fridge for 1st time ALWAYS ALWAYS, check & double check temp, with docs, also if you are reall unsur, got to the front of the fridge & manually adjust the fridge to 0 (thats zero) then re adjust to temp on paperwork, remember to hit the = button or setting wont take place, doing it this way removes any doubt or malfunction prob there may be with the LED screen on the fridge
