Does anyone know whether reefers are a standard height?
The reason I’m asking is that at the moment when we load a reefer the height of the product (rolls) is 2.9 mtrs which is a tad too high for the reefers that come in. So we have to split them down by one roll to get 'em on.
The planner said today that she’d arranged for taller reefers to come in but I thought they were all a standard height.
the older cargobulls we run are 139" the newer scmitz are between 144" & 146" we have some however what are 149" which have the ability of stacking pallets on adjustable bars (double deckers)
and also we run live bed double deckers (with the floating deck what lifts up) and they are 159". confusing aint it, especially when you have to try and remember what type trailer your towing after multiple trailer swops.
I was sweating on monday, after leaving netto at south emsall, I headed towards ossett via wakefield (A638) but forgot theres a 139" bridge on that road, so Im quickly looking for the trailer number on my paperwork to figure what type trailer Id got on the back, luckily Id got one of the older scmitz so scraped trhough

Isn’t there a height warning system on there?
I’m sure there was last time I took a trailer up there - I joined the A638 at Ackworth as I was running at 14’ 9".

Did you know that there is a legal obligation to display the vehicle height in the cab ?
I’m not criticising or Nit Picking but if Vosa wanted to be awkward in a check and your marker displayed the wrong height you could land a fine.
The height marker is a legal requirement and is supposed to be ammended at each trailer swap if the heights differ

Im not 1005 on fridges, but if they are dual compartment, dont they have folding partitions in the roof space?
Yes they do!
The standard ‘Grays & Adams’ trailers used to be 13’ 1" when I worked for Blakes and on the ‘Nurdin & Peacock’ contract at Exel Droitwich (now a Morrisons/Safeway RDC).
‘How long is a piece of string?’ springs to mind. Hauliers will obviously spec their own trailer dimensions depending on the type of work they’re doing.
My guess is they’re not chilled but in one of the ambient compartments.
From my experience with Tesco the Composite depots spit the trailers into up to 3 compartments with the folding bulkheads, -20 at the front, then +3 then the ambient stuff at the back like cakes etc. Sometimes they’ll send pallets of TV’s and stuff like that on the same wagon as Frozen.

That’ll be the one next to the Redbeck cafe then.

You will have a bigger problem if you get a reefer equipped with meat rails and hooks.
By the way its not bog rolls, we make nappies here at Barton. But we also make some of the material that goes in to the making of a nappy. In this case its the material that becomes the waistband of a nappy. (Yawn!!) It has to be kept below 25 degrees. The stuff we ship goes to Czech Republic, Korea and Australia.
As luck would have it the day after I wrote the thread the first reefer that came in was 2.7 metres (internal) which is just the right height to take 2 lots of 4 rolls. Trouble is I’d already spent an hour stripping them down to 4 and 3. Everyone we’ve had until then had been 2.5 metres.

Well you wont get me loading at yours then, the meat rails in my G&A slope down at the back and give a rear door apeture of 2.1 meters. But one thing that i didnt notice any one comment on is, your loading to freeze, dont you need to leave an airspace to the roof, this is to aid circulation, well thats what i’ve been lead to beleave. any comments
