Hey Juddian,
Went round again, some big "family"companies in Essex on Thursday. Same story nothing happening! Nothing going why didn’t you come a month or a few months ago…ermmmm because I had an awesome job I didn’t really want to ever leave

They’re loving the silly 4 page photo portfolio I do to show examples of what I have moved to date, it’s not that impressive but they think it is from starting 22 months ago…I think it was or maybe even 23 months…hell though if they like it and I can demonstrate something then it’ s good enough for me.
For real interviews I want to knock up a proper printed photo portfolio to demonstrate all I’ve done to date in a nice folder to show examples that ever relevant or they want to see. I do amateur photography so it shouldn’t be that hard. He reckons

Spent, in one of the local low loader hauliers, about 20 minutes chatting to overall owner with all 6 artics semi and proper low loaders stood up in the yard. “Plant is dying”, was his exact words!
Hence he’s doing “general plant transporting” for everyone else and that’s what he’s concentrating on. Unfortunately he’s only got 5 lorries working full time all over UK and one stood up permanently with no driver because he just can’t find the constant workload for it. He offered me holiday cover and if work temporarily picked up, just cover the small spikes in demand. He didn’t think that would be best for me either. But would keep CV definitely on file for future.
Especially as his lorries done the repossession, they knew of me and my plight. I thought it was a nice offer but wasn’t going to pay the mortgage off quickly either.
At another local company I unwittingly interrupted the owner discussing with his wife about making a purchase for a new excavator. They were doing the specification in reception■■?
He came over asked if he could help, I said what happened, handed over all paperwork etc, as he said he had no driving work going. I thanked him and went to turn and he asked me to wait. Said to his wife we’ll look at the excavator later and asked me to go down to his office with him. So I followed in case there was any other random opportunities…invitied into his office and offered tea and cake to share with him and his dogs…so ■■■■■■■ surreal.

Ended up being there for 45 minutes chatting randomly as I’d never met the guy before, but knew the company because of the type of gear they moved in the same area as I used too!!!
Talked about his start up, what they do now, the state of haulage today, the ■■■■ - drivers have to put up with as he used to do it before the business expanded, whether I knew any good operators and fitters so gave details for 3 guys and they’re saying the might have got a start now with him! Typical!!!

Even helped him with looking in a catalogue for parts to do with one of his articulated dump trucks so he could place an order. I was used to reading technical drawing from my engineering surveying days, but ■■■■ technical drawing of components…how hard are they to read, comprehend and decipher!!!
During that discussion, he made 5 calls to contacts, to see if they had any driving jobs or some of his/our competitors that might have had something I was experienced in.
The man had never met me before and genuinely went out of his way to help me…still shocked people still wanna help even though they personally can’t

Miracle Osborne, the man couldn’t even pull the skin off a rice pudding, let alone an economic recovery! He’s got lucky on the back of other countries suddenly picking up their economic recovery, who wanna deal with us, it werne’t know of his doing as I don’t see that debt mountain going down any millenia soon!!
Bit in the same way Gordon Brown was unlucky to take over running the country when it started going down hill after Blair run off and then he got blamed for his ■■■■, which he didn’t enact personally not including financial stuff…
anyway i’m digressing now into a Carryfast moment!
I know nothing about car transporting bar moving Ford Mustang’s and Triumph’s on the back of semi loaders…with a lot of wood to get them off the ■■■■ trailer

I know nothing about the sector to be honest, what it does, how it does it, what it’s like, the niggles within it, how it pays or even hours or nights out requirements. As there’s things listed there that plant doesn’t do which I like, but obviously it has its disadvantages too, nothing’s perfect.
Wouldn’t know where to start and then it’s a precious load to be honest that needs to be treated with a lot of care, missing trees and other hazards including people wanting to get the load off you.
To be fair had a few car transporter drivers help me in the past when in services looking to park up at night and normal artics are sitting in the wide load bays for the night
and of course I’ve had a wide load on the back! They’ve shuffled lorries about to give me 2 bays or put me in hatched areas next to them out of the way of others and helped me get in a decent position so I’m not a nuisance obstruction. Hand them help on the road too, when I’ve struggled to get by them whilst they’ve been unloading/loading! A more forgiving HGV driver that seemed to understand some of our driving problems.

Not sure what they are looking for in a driver or the T&Cs on offer and whether I’d fit in the grain…so honestly never thought about it.
