Following on from another thread today, this is about what I don’t need to see in my mirrors.
Simply put, two things: The sky, and the truck.
A ‘sliver’ of your cab is necessary for a reference point, but no more, and the top of each mirror
ideally is at the top of the following trucks, no higher.
This all means that you’ve got maximum views of everything else that matters.
This method can apply to all mirrors, incl side and windscreen.

A man who thinks like me. The times I’ve got in trucks and either all you can see is your trailer, or passing planes.
absolutely spot on> i am so weary of having to put mirrors down from the ‘aircraft spotting’ position> EVERY single night shift starts with the same rigmarole…grrrrrr
I like to see a tiny bit more of my vehicle, but I’m in a rigid. Also, that way, when I lean forward a touch I can still see anything trying to sneak up my side.
I got told this on my class 1 training, along with the horizon should be in the middle of the mirror. This is how mines set up & I like it . Whatever you get used to I suppose.
I like to see just a little bit more of the vehicle in the mirrors, especially the nearside mirrors, but I wouldn’t go as far as a third of the mirror.
A few years ago I went for an assement drive with an LGV driving school,(paid for by my prospective employer) as part of the application/interveiw process, anyway, I start the assement by doing daily checks, which included me adjusting the N/S mirrors, he was not happy, I pitched the fish eye mirror away abit from the truck, and the main one down a bit. " i’ve got them set how you need them" he says, " no, thats why I’ve adjusted them" “you have to see the top of the trailer so you dont hit anything, its high” he went on, “its 13’6”, I’ve been dragging 15’ + for the last 5 years, and if I only see an overhead obstruction in my mirror trust me its to late" says I. Now I’m not havin a go, but as I did point out to him, his job was to assess what I did, not train me, I did tell that I was open to take onbaord any construtive comment he wished to make, but I wasnt prepared to spend my time plane spotting. As it was he found very little to fualt me on, even after our shaky introduction, and I got the job, though I’ve since moved on. Happy days

For [zb] sake grow up, this is a discussion forum, if you don’t like it [zb] off
You can’t mention anything on this forum without some arse-hole playing the big I am
What’s grow up got to do with anything■■? Yes it’s a discussion forum but come on…setting mirrors is surely the first thing to do
I’m FAR from an arse-hole and I’n not playing the big I am - just stating the bloody obvious
When I see questions or comments like the above posts it just proves that there is a need for this dcpc (which I personally oppose)

I keep mine so I can just see the chains and straps holding everything on board.
Some of the stuff we move like JCB 3CX’s that are not as fresh as they once were will settle or bounce slightly on their tyres and slacken off the chains no matter how tight you get them to start with.
Heras fencing is probably the worst, get a stack of 30 or so panels and there is a lot of spring in them when they have been used a few times and stacked loosely. Bumps on the road can sometimes make them bounce down and the end of the strap comes away from the body. Hateful things.

I did plant for a week on agency. Loved it, but know what you about chains.
Just noticed near side mine is set so about an 8th of mirror is taken up by box. Offside about 3rd by box.
