Reduced daily rest

Drivers must normally take at least 11 consecutive hours’ daily rest, though this can be reduced by up to two hours on up to three occasions between any two weekly rest periods. No compensation is required for such reductions.

So does that mean upto 3 times a week if I have weekends off or is it upto 3 times every 2 weeks■■?

you can reduce every week 3 times…i dont… i always have my 11 hrs off as no company can force you to reduce…its the drivers choice…another way of looking at it is this…if you reduce 3 times a week…every week, and your hourly rate is £10 per hour…thats £60 weekly…£240 monthly…and annually, on average 50 weeks work…equates to £3000…thats what your company gains…and you do not have to pay this time back…so as always the company gains…good ere innit

Putting it like that then I think I will be having my full 11 hours every day :grimacing:

How does that work then

Most people on hourly rate get paid for the hours worked regardless of whether or not they’ve had reduced daily rest periods, so how could the company gain £3000 per year

Also to say it’s the drivers choice whether or not to have a reduced daily rest is not always correct unless you’re happy to be out of work.

Anyway getting back to the original question you can reduce the daily rest period to no less than 9 hours 3 times between weekly rest periods, so if you work Monday to Friday you can have 3 reduced daily rests from Monday to Friday.

If you work Wednesday to Tuesday you can have 3 reduced daily rest periods during that time.

Within each period of 24 hours after the end of the
previous daily rest period or weekly rest period a driver shall
have taken a new daily rest period.

A driver may have at most three reduced daily rest
periods between any two weekly rest periods.

A weekly rest period shall start no later than at the end of six
24-hour periods from the end of the previous weekly rest
period.

A “week” means the period of time between 00.00 on
Monday and 24.00 on Sunday

So that none of the wordsmiths can come and quote new mmtm rules, I have quoted the applicable bits directly from the rulebook :stuck_out_tongue:

Coffeholic will appear shortly and show you how you can take 6 consecutive reduced breaks

And Bob if you get paid by the hour, reducing your rest period actually pays you more money, not less
