They had a few quarries around Derbyshire years ago, they took over some of Steetley’s, and they owned the large granite quarry at Mountsorrell of course. I think that they bought out Wirksworth Quarries and their surfacing side as well who were London based (Pentonville Road) but personally I never did any work for Redland or Lafarge come to that. They supplied a fair amount of blacktop from Mountsorrell to Tilcons M40 contract from the M42 to Shrewley so us Tilcon lads had some contact with them on that job.

Here,s a few from Bob Hobbs excellent site transportphotos.com
I used to load flint out of Woolhampton pit near Pangbourne. It was being run down when I was there, the washing plant had been cut up and Raymond Brown had a temporary one in use as they dug up the old haul roads. The loading shovel was still in Redland colours and it seemed was going to a warmer climate once the quarry closed.
I recall Redland having a depot at Ponteland, One of their 8 wheeler Foden tankers went to load at a factory & it was loaded with the wrong stuff which apparently was neat acid, It was being pumped by the Fodens system & it wrecked the pump & the 12 speed gear box in the process, It also dissolved part of than tank, IIRC The whole lot was written off, Regards Larry.

Redlands had quite a few pits here in Huntingdonshire. Redland had pit at Buckden , Cow land at Godmanchester, Marsh lane at St Ives and they had three asphalt plant at Little Paxton. There was a big plant for mane roads and medium plant for smaller roads and a small plant for footpath and the like. They also had a concrete plat at Huntingdon which is now owned by Hope. My Granddad George Gee drove for Redlands out of Little Paxton in the early seventies he was only there for 6 months before he left to drive for Edwards Bros from Spaldwick. When he started he had a brand new AEC sixwheeler and when he handed his notice in they gave him a 4 wheel Bedford KM. There were a lot company around here who worked for Redland like Edward bros, J L Edwards, John S Watt , W Helletts and Co, E & M Bacon who started with a mixer out of Huntingdon, R E Pateman Burgess & Walker .

i was on for Redland Aggs at Mountsorrel late '80’s,my dad was on for many years 'till he retired.a great comany to work for…ruined by the Lafarge takeover IMO.(though the Steetley drivers said we’d ruined THEIR company when Redland took over them!)
i put some photo’s on the Mountsorrel thread (i think!).
i’ve just bought a Redland AEC 6-wheel tipper,by Oxford Diecast…nice little model new out i believe.
