We didnt have deisel just two and four star and the pipes used to swing out over the pavement and we used to fill cars as people walked past.

Surely it was ‘regular’ and ‘premium’?

I think what’s now considered regular, is the unleaded equivalent of 4 star. The 2 & 3 star petrol had a lower octane level than modern regular fuel. Premium now has a higher octane rating again, in addition to all the additives to keep engines, turbos, cat’s etc clean.

My first car used 3 star, and it ran like a bag of s…

Sorry Santa your right it was regular and premium memory slipping a bit with age.

Suedehead no definately Redex you must be going back further than me. Mind you got me thinking now def remember doing Redex though.

Back in the good ol’ carburated days, to do a decoke was easy.

Take the air filter off and start the engine when it’s nice and hot.

Gun the motor at the same time as tipping in a teaspoon or two of Redex nice and slowly - watch the street fill with smoke

Rev 'til smoke clears, pop filter back on , job done.

Simples.

Have a look at 5th post back.

Sorry, Pete, didn’t see ya post - we used to swear by it, once a month, kept things sweet.

Yeah, it’s not like I’ve ever missed a post… or a whole thread.
