red rose training

Peter Smythe:

Asessment to determine length of coure to which the trainee should be ready - lets say 7 days
Day 1 of a 5 day course (but really needing 7 days) the trainee might be ready

Still don’t get the point. Is it only me?

Hi Peter, no mate, it’s not just you… I think I know what he means, but the translator has taken the evening off. :grimacing:

A clue is to be found by looking under the avatars… yours and mine say “senior member,” whilst ROG’s is slightly different.

here is mine but didnt train with Red Rose
did have assessment for cat C did 5 day course had several instructors this did work for me ( it is on here somewhere)

then went back to same place for ce but the instructor well with me had a little to be desired to say the least as im not the tallest every-time i made a suggestion to him he dismissed it ( even what some instructors on here call “BLACK”) i felt he had 1 way & that was it he was supposed to be very experienced as well ( he was fine with some of the males ) yes i failed on the reverse this was partly due to him not teaching me properly as was his way ( which didnt suit me )

hope to do again soon but with someone else as did go for an assessment with 2 other companies in the area

best advice i would give is go to said training provider have an assessment speak to them see if you like before you book also see if they book theory hpt ect

I trained with Red Rose in 1997.

I found they suited me, and fitted in with my requirements. I did not do intensive courses, because at the time I couldn’t take that sort of time off away from my business, and I was only doing it ‘for a bit of fun’ - little did I know where it would eventually lead!

Initially I did a CatD course with them, after an assessement - which I really took as a trial drive, to see if I liked it! They were very accommodating for me and I did about 3 lessons per fortnight. Passed first time with 13 hours plus 4 for the test. Was then encouraged to do CatC ‘as I would only need a couple of hours in the truck and then take your test’ - which I did, and passed. At that point I decided to go for C+E (well- hey, why not?). Again after a few lessons I passed that first time as well.

So you can see that I was very pleased with Red Rose. I also got a free ADR course (packages) with them because I had done the three tests, but that may not be the case now. Of course if you lived over this way now, I would recommend a local training company!

I have done my initial assessment this past weekend and found them fabulous. A friend of mine was a instructor with them a number of years ago so it was him who reecomended them to me. Presently i am doing my theory and HPT with them.

They are fantastic.

I took 6 attempts to pass Class C with Red Rose.Soon gets expensive.I felt that I wasn’t managed very well. When I failed a test I would ask “What should I do know?” and the response was usually “It’s up to you”.Well actually it’s not up to me ,with a big outfit like Red Rose I expect professional advice and I did not get any from them.As far as I am concerned I am paying for more than a few hours sat in a truck,I expected to be given advice and tutoring specific to me and it did not happen.Everyone has different needs and they failed to recognise that.I have heard good things about Truk Training in Bolton, their vehicles aren’t as new but that hardly matters. There was also ,strangely enough ,a guy based in Wigan advertising on ebay who seemed quite competitive if cost is an issue. He was mentioned on this site in the past few weeks.

Many thanks for the mention Deathstar(guy in Wigan) the cheques int post x

i passed c+e with red rose this year at the second attempt, i had an hours assesment drive with them where i was informed that i needed a 20hr course which i thought was about right and to be honest if they had suggested 16hrs i would still have insisted doing 20hrs. i then went into the office to book my course i opted to do my course over two consecutive weekends with my test on tuesday.
that was my big mistake i had a different instructor on the first saturday and sunday which was ok, but on the 3rd day which was the following saturday i had yet another instructor who to be quite honest i didn’t take to he was also amazed that i’d not been anywhere near my test centre to learn any of the test routes. this was also my bad day of driving which i believe we all go through it was if i’d never driven an artic before so this probably didn’t help with my instructor who had a severe lack of patience.
on the sunday i had the same instructor as the previous saturday who i found quite good a real nice bloke as well so had a better driving day my confidence was starting to come back i felt alot better than after my disaster day on saturday, i’m feeling apprehensive about my test but anything can happen so tuesday arrives and yet another instructor takes me out for a couple reverse’s and a drive to the test centre he let me to my own devices so not to throw my confidence.
well i failed on one major and a few minors i clipped the kerb any way i knew in my own heart i probably needed a little longer driving or maybe a more settled regime i.e not a different instructor every time. the instructor who took me out then informed me of a couple of things that i probably should have done but didn’t want to unsettle me before my test.
i got back to red rose and had a bit of a whinge about having different instructors in the vain hope that they might throw in a couple of free hrs driving before my retest it fell on deaf ears, anyway i re-booked my test and a couple of extra hours training three weeks went by and my retest i got the instructor who i had on a few occasions which immediatly put me at ease anyway i passed with 5 minors so was well chuffed. i think if you do use red rose you need to do it with a block booking and hopefully the same instructor, i contacted red rose for a short time ago about a refresher course as i was having a assesment drive for a job in two days time they called me back 30 mins later and could manage to give me a couple of hours the following day which i was truly greatful for forgot to mention when you pass the give you a insulated mug with red rose on well worth the cost of the course lol.

Are Wigan LGV training any good? Has anyone got any reports either good or bad?

Hi everybody I pasted my lgv class C with “Paul’s LGV training school” in Feb 09 I can wholely express my gratitude for the excelent training provided by Paul. The driving course was well laid out in 4 hour daily courses and the test was set at the end of it. If I had any problems Paul took all the time in the world to explain and demonstrate what was required to master the fine art of guide in a LGV around the country.
I trully can recomend his driving school to anybody and his cost are very competetive with the other schools in the area. Just to let you know I drive for the local council and the training has help me very much in climbing the job ladder at work.
