many years ago [ 1980’s ] .I used to park at Watford gap. there used to be a pub/restaurant on the northbound side,
on the banks of the canal, is it still there ?. if I was heading for London, I used to turn tacho 12 hours forward [ analogue ] and park in London for night. outside delivery premises.the New Inn? still going strong
No - that’s at Long Buckby Wharf, which is a few miles South on the A5. The pub/restaurant at Watford (or, to be pedantic, Welton Station) used to be called the Stag’s Head when my grandfather kept it for several decades. It passed through a few hands until it was bought by a Portuguese bloke who turned it from a traditional pub into a quite nice restaurant. Don’t know his real name but everyone called him “Jack”. Then it went a oriental and became the Thai Garden and then the Mango Lounge. Far as I know it is currently closed - I don’t expect it to resurface as an eatery or pub.
