Google might be wrong on that Roymondo - Loading Crude in Ras Tanura in the summer of 1965 the local radio ran constant warnings as the temperature in the shade was peaking around 136f in Brexit degrees or 57.8c as we know it now.
I’d rather not rely on Google’s headline figures (other search engines are of course available) in much the same way that I don’t put too much weight on anecdotal recollections such as yours. That’s not to say that you didn’t experience working in those temperatures or that broadcasters were incorrect in the information they were putting out at the time.
I prefer to dig a little deeper into the info available from the likes of the WMO and, in the context of a post that effectively says “41 degrees is nothing - I remember when we were routinely working as normal in 50 degree temperatures back in the day” to establish a benchmark.
It’s a little bit like challenging the “We’ve had bigger than that down here, driver” observations to query exactly how much bigger (and more importantly, how was it measured?).

Ironically the US forecasts nonchalantly laughing at 30+ at night and 40C + ( bit toasty uncomfortable ) show the silly UK fear propaganda for what it is.
On that note I always had my suspicions that the American climate is often understated, v the Middle East as described in Cola Cowboys.
It’s burning on dart Ford common next to m25 , & on a13, looks to be getting close to houses , one brave lorry driver nighting out next to field on fire , if you’re going eastbound give him a knock , maybe not aware what’s over the hedge

At last, we know how old you are, if you were kicked out of school in 1975 you must have been born in 1960 which means you are so much younger than you sound on here - not even old enough for a bus pass

At least I know enough maths to know that born end 1958 meant leaving school in Easter 1975 at 16.You seem to know more about what I did and when than I do but at least try to get it right if you must.
I can remember driving home from holiday in Spain in the 1980s a Spanish truck and Brit coach flattening the central Armco on the motorway between Barcelona and Perpignan so we could turn around to escape an apocalyptic wildfire which spread across the border of both countries. The sky was literally as black as night at midday and the massive smoke cloud looked like the end of the world when approaching it from a distance miles away.
Went back to Barcelona and stayed for a couple of days and when returned on way home saw that the flames that we’d all seen rushing towards us in the distance down the hills had jumped the motorway and we all would have been in the middle of it.
No big deal certainly not global warming just the usually expected Mediterranean type stuff.

I’m impressed CF - they didn’t kick you out when you were 15.

They probably did, but in true Carryfast style, he didn’t take the hint; just stayed there preaching on the best methods of teaching.

Ironically I’d suffered the usual type of ‘retribution’ by the sadistic management of the stalag crap hole for taking part in a ‘strike’ by us unfortunate pupils previously over the increase in the school leaving age.
But I then put more time and effort into escaping the place at lunch times by going home and ‘forgetting’ to go back for the afternoons.Than wanting to get involved in their idea of ‘education’ which would have been more suited to a borstal.
As for the two day ‘heatwave’ the usual suspects are blaming it all on CO2.Obviously selectively avoiding an explanation for the low 20s forecast for Friday. Was obviously a two day CO2 spike.Nothing to do with wind direction.
Well it was serious, news reports were telling us that the UK has never ever had a red warning for heat, but it was only introduced last year!
robroy:
I’ve heard it’s going to be so hot that…wait for it…
Some of you may have to take off your hi viz vests whilst driving !!
Yeh seriously.
(Don’t worry though, you can resume looking an absolute 2hat when it cools back down. )
What are you suggesting, hi viz jacket will protect you from anything, you will have the H and S people getting a stroke
Its new here, we now get warnings of Heat and Cold, I believe its because for some reason the US also uses a European model to forecast !! It will be 119F + from tomorrow until at least Tuesday next week, with a night time low of around 90F.
Plus why do you think countries like Spain and Italy to name 2 have an afternoon Siesta?
As to drivers keeping cool, soak a towel in cold water (rung) and wrap it round your neck, through evaporation it will keep you cool and then repeat the process when the towel dry’s out, You can also place a container of Ice in front of your Fan, so it blows cold !(And you can always drink the Ice water as it melts…
