Red flag on your vehicle

few yrs ago i got stopped by the police id gone thru the lights as changed to red. this was in my car. anyhow i was let off but car was checked over/my details looked at as per routine and then i was on my way
but then i get stopped several times in the next year when i wasnt doing anything wrong .each time im checked over. then i sold my car. never once been stopped in the next car
what im wondering about being stopped more than what youd expect is > do you think that when old bill stop you [for whatever] from then on that vehicle pulls up a red flag on a coppers screen if he gets behind you?

Cars that may be “of interest” normally have a market put on the reg no so it will flash up when caught by police anpr, mate of mine brought a BMW from a garage and was forever being stopped…turned out the guy who owned it before him was a well know drug dealer :sunglasses:

Not long after I passed my test I got pulled over driving my mothers car. My mate in the passenger seat happened to have a bit of weed which they found. This resulted in a marker being placed on the car and my mother getting pulled regularly for about 6 months until the car was traded in. Needless to say I never got a shot of her motor again.

aye a red flag system to be sure …a mate that drove an old hillman avenger tiger used to get stopped ■■■■ near every time he was going home from work at 2-3am in a rural area .he kept score and the best he had was 8 stops in one week, most people thought it was due to it being an auld wreck but in real life he was pumping a cops x wife. After months o getting stopped often by the same cops a couple o days in a row he got a soliciter to write a letter to the chief constable complaining o harassment,it worked.

One advantage of changing my car often, and running each old banger into the ground rather than bother with selling it on is that any “red flagging” dies with the old car.

I get “new customer only” deals with insurance, breakdown cover, etc. all the time that way! :sunglasses: :grimacing:

Friend of mine bought a second hand BMW M something or other car 2 or 3 years ago, which we all joked was a total drug dealers car.

Well, we were right. He was driving home one night around 1 or 2 in the morning and was suddenly pulled over, fairly swiftly and violently by a copper who more or less forced him off the road. Turned out the car had a mass of drug markers on it and i guess when it was seen out and about at that time of night the police thought they’d just hit the jackpot.

Once he and the car were searched he just had to go to the police station and fill out some paperwork etc to show that he bought the car after all these markers had been put on it and the car was taken off their system so he wouldn’t get stopped for drugs stuff again.

They definitely keep records.

this makes sense, cheers for the replies. id always wondered why my [citroen zx] was getting stopped .At the time it was old but not so old it was a wreck
i doubt it had ever been a drug lords motor , but a few weeks before i 1st got stopped my ex had accused me of violence and had rang the police in a panic .luckily for me i was on a beach miles away at the time so i had a alibi so nothing was done further but im now thinking my car had a marker put on it ,worth stopping randomly case hes carrying a ball pein hammer or whatever . yehh thats why i got the marker

Bought a car off someone who had lost their licence for drink driving. On my way to work at 4am and got pulled over and breathalised so when that came back clear asked why and was told there was a marker on the car. I explained that i had recently bought the car and they said that they would remove the marker, not happened since.

Load of bollux about BMW’s being the favoured drug dealers form of transport, if so why advertise your trade ■■ btw had a few BMW’s but never sold as much as an aspirin …

Interesting this.

Mrs Butcher used to have an old, but mint MX5. I often took it to work as she needed my larger car on many days.

Anyway, I experienced on a couple of occasions , local plod would often pull alongside if and peer into the vehicle whilst driving. Or, a patrol car would slow right down in front of me( at 3am on a clear road).

Then, I got stopped on my way to work. I hadn’t done anything wrong. Plod appeared from nowhere, and asked me if it was my car, where I’d come from etc. So I just told him it was my car, I was on my way to work, blah blah.

Eventually, I was stopped. Police said they’d had a report of an MX being stolen.
After I told them it was my wife’s car, their niggling attitude changed.
I was never stopped or attracted their attention again.
Strange I thought!

does anyone think you get pulled over more in an unliveried lorry, no company name or anything?

If it’s tatty maybe,

I had an issue coming back into Algeciras which resulted in several African chaps getting a kicking from the police. I got stopped every time I came into Dover. Eventually mentioned it to customs and they told me they would sort it.

Hardly ever got stopped again. The ferry companies have stop lists for drivers so as soon as you book on, the customs know you are on your way

When I was I yoof (before ANPR)I had a fiesta got stopped by the police in it they took my details ect and told me they were on the lookout for stolen cars so for comedy value I told the copper to tell me what car he wanted and I’d get him one for a good price…boring mr copper didn’t even smile and went all serious on me

going back a few years but I had a couple of experiances of it, my very first wagon I kept getting pulled and another driver said to me its cause the police are suspicious of plain white cabs, got my name put on it and had no more bother. Few years latter I changed vehicle, year old topline 50k miles, painted white again to hide previous company name, started getting pulled, soon as it got sign written I was left alone.

With the mass use of static and mobile anpr camera’s, or pro-active and targeted police’ing as it’s known, more vehicle’s are being marked. They know we’re you are before you do.
