Recruiters face inquiry over £390m 'tax avoidance' scheme

There’ll be a few smarmy bleeders at these agencies 'hitting a brick now boy!

Just a shame that the drivers will probably get done as well when most may have been pressured into joining these schemes by the agency.

Simple answer. Ban all agencies. If an employer has a job to offer, Then he should employ the right person for the job directly.

Fairness is a funny old thing.

Limited company and LGV drivers as well not forevers.early or later they make pressure to reduced number of limited company.if drivers work for different agency, company should be ok.but if drivers work for same agency 2-3 years really legally/not legaly

Our tax system is far too complex. Simplify it and the loopholes will be closed.
That’s far too easy. :unamused:

I would NEVER sign up to an umbrella scam, which is basically what the article relates to.

LTD company all the way.

Not sure how the drivers can get into trouble through this, it reads like they are already being shafted by the agencies by not getting the money the agencies are claiming back.

Well they will if umbrella schemes or other tax avoidance schemes are deemed unlawful in the new investigation.

The worry would be that HMRC would decide that an individual driver has not paid enough tax through one of these schemes. They would then change his code to recover it. This - in spite of the fact that he had little choice but to trust the administrators of the scheme.

It would be the same principle that lands celebs in trouble after some thieving tax accountant makes off with their cash, instead of handing it over. Ignorance is no excuse.

If it all comes tumbling down and they start chasing you for monies unpaid, just do as they toffs do and go bankrupt. Cant take what you aint got

And what happens if a company needs additional drivers for a couple of days or a week to, for example, take a couple of trucks over to Bulgaria to register them there?

Agencies perform a vital service to companies. Helps to keep the costs down of the stuff you buy.

They can however take your house if you have equity in it.

So have lots of babies - they don’t evict those!

If you have a joint mortgage they will also find it difficult to take it so long as you aren’t both part of the same scam - erm ltd company!

If you were a fly on a wall in a Agency office :unamused:

How do we get round and avoid the agency-workers-regulations

I know sole trader, ltd, umbrella company, job done, and we can line our pockets even more.

And next year to increase our profit use this bull [zb] excuse sorry mate the margins are very tight now i need to pay you less.

bis.gov.uk/assets/biscore/em … idance.pdf

Agency = blood sucking leeches
Working for a agency = Bend over and be prepared to be boarded
Agency pay rate = You going to be [zb]ed and [zb]ed hard

Any decent transport manager will have a list of retired/semi retired experienced drivers that could do a couple of days.

Agencies once did a vital job of supplying temporary workers, But what’s temporary about working for 12 weeks, then being laid off for a few days before doing another 12 weeks at the same firm.

Aggreed agenceys help with holiday cover and peaks in a business such as christmas for supermarkets. Also good for some people who cant or dont want to commit to full time work but lots of firms seem to use agencey to cover most or all of there workload

Lots of hatred for agencies here. As for banning them, no way. If anyone doesnt like them, dont sign up for them. As a lot of posters on here will tell you, just get a full time job. Simple eh?
Plenty of advice given on here, like dont sign up for scummy agencies and if you do have to, just tell them how much £/Hr you want and dont accept anything less!!

Anyway, back on planet Earth, agencies allow me to work when I want i.e. part time and flexible. Over the years Ive had alot more grief off so called reputable transport companies than any agency. I resolved never to work for anyone ever again 7 years ago, after getting ■■■■ upon by Christian Salvesen and it was the best decision Ive ever made.

I felt slighly sorry for the guys where I work who had no choice but to come in on Christmas eve AND Boxing Day, whereas I declined the offer because I quite liked the idea of spending the festive time with my wife and children.

Its not for everyone but its suits some folk quite well.
