Recovery work - tacho question

Hi all,

If I was to bring the truck home as told to by the boss and then when a call comes start from here, would I need a tacho in from the start or only on jobs going more than 50km from my home, or is it still 50km from the trucks base. (Approx 40km ish away.)

Many thanks :smiley:

I assume that the vehicle is exempt from needing an operators licence, so an operating base would not be stipulated on an O/P.

If that’s correct then I would say that if the vehicle is going to be usually kept at your home it could be regarded as the vehicles base, at-least for the purpose of the EU exemption.

But to be honest I think it would pay you and your boss to get written confirmation from VOSA, keep your back covered and it can’t come back to bite you :wink:

Apart from that, You say the radius you can travel from the base before coming in-scope of EU regulations is 50km, but as far as I can see the exemption from EU regulations is for a vehicle operating within 100km radius of the base not 50.

So at-least you appear to have gained 50km :smiley:

(f) specialised breakdown vehicles operating within a
100 km radius of their base;
