One of my workmates used to do recovery, and he’d sometimes have to recover a double decker bus from France or somewhere like that. If I recall correctly how he told it to me, he said you’re not allowed to tow with a bar in France, vehicles have to be lifted with a grid/boom. This raises the bus and puts it higher than the bridges. So to get around it wheels have to be changed for smaller ones. Yeah, I’d love to go and do all that for £100 (before tax).

Most of the work is for breakdown companies or insurance companies and they only pay the minimum that they can get away with .
The expression of the race to the bottom is very apt .
The cost of the equipment used is eye-watering.
Some of the cheaper trucks being used don’t work very well and are very restricted in operation.
