Recommended North Wales training

Hi,

I did use the search function but nothing was found on my phone.

I’m wanting to start driving so I will be hopefully training for Class 2.

I live in North Wales, not too far from Wrexham.
I have read the broker info thread about training centres and I didn’t know that was a thing. I’m very unsure on who to use for training in my area. Using Google pandgtraining shows as in my area, are they recommended?

I’m new to this, I have my medical booked in Cheater for the 24th.

A couple of other things I couldn’t find answers for:

The medical, what does it consist of? Is it just eyes they check?

Also I read about CPC, is this just a money making scheme for the government?? From what I’ve seen, it looks just like another theory and test to do. Why’s it so hush hush? No one mentions it on the training sites I’ve looked on, it’s like once you pass your test, you’re not even qualified/allowed to drive as a job until you sit this other test, is that right? What does it cost?

Thanks for any answers and sorry if they sound like silly questions.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum pal. Recommended trainers are here: LGV TRAINING TIPS [Reworked 01/02/2022] (Read only) - NEW AND WANNABE DRIVERS (INTERACTIVE) - Trucknet UK

As for medical, Yes eyes, so if you need a prescription it may be better to get your optician to fill in that part of the form, or take your prescription along to your GP for the medical. The medical is mainly about your safety at the wheel. i.e. do you have a heart condition.

The CPC is not hush hush, just different and a little confusing on when you passed your car driving text. See the above post for more info.

Hope that helps!

You should try John @ Chevron Training, Flint. Unless, of course, you do a residential course with us. Choices are yours. All the best, Pete

Hi

I live in St Asaph and I went to Stobarts Training Academy at Widnes. Very professional and around the same price as all the others. Also benefits that you are likely to get work with them once you have passed the test. Cannot recomend them enough and they don’t even pay me…well they will from tomorrow as I start with them at Warrington

Hawley’s Lane or Appleton mate?

Thank you very much the replies.

Thanks for the link  The medical doesn’t sound too bad then, I don’t need glasses but I’ve never had an eye test, they should be ok though.

What is a residential course? Sorry, I’ve never heard of it. New to this training lingo haha.

I’m around 10 miles west from Wrexham. I don’t know how far is travel to train because I don’t know what it will be like really. How does it work? A lesson or two a week for a month or three like car lessons or will I be there all day every week day for a week or two? Have you got a job with them on class 2? Ahhhhh, windy Warrington. I work there a lot but I don’t have to get myself there, we use work vans. If I was driving as a job it would have to be more local if I was getting myself there every day. In Warrington working now as it happens, the lovely Stockton Heath…

Has anybody heard of or experienced pandgtraining?

While you wait… It’s being put up (for free) at a local B&B. Pete doesn’t charge extra for this service…

Sorry, I sent the pm after I responded. You should be able to open it now.

I used P&G driver training in Holywell. Ex senior Examiner. I was very happy with them. pandgdrivertraining.co.uk/

Thank you for the information.

I think I’m leaning more towards Pete Smythe’s service. Instead of me traveling 80 miles per day to Holywell and back, I can just travel the 110 miles to Mansfield and make the most of the residential service and stay there until I (hopefully) pass and then drive home.

It makes a bit more sense. Very much looking forward to driving one.

Not a problem. Good luck hope it goes well.

Thank you for the information. I will contact them. They never came up when I was searching on Google, I never knew there was one so close.

Did you come from Bolton to get training for an LGV?

Cheers

Yeah I did. Booked into the travelodge down there. Did both class 1 and 2 with them. The instructors are top notch and the other guys are really friendly too. Am chatting to the owner Vicky now. If you do ring tell her Dan sent you, she might swear a bit lol
