Evening all. Can anyone recommend a good Hgv learning firm in Northamptonshire have got a few but would like any feedback from the horses mouth of any that are good and which to avoid. Thanks in advance
Highly recommend hughes driver training. Did my class 1 and 2 with them and passed first time both times
Before you book any training, go and physically look at the vehicles, chat with the trainers, have a look at the facilities. The offerings vary from unqualified instructors in beaten up trucks running out of a corner of a muddy yard (no reversing area) to fully qualified instructors in new trucks with purpose built facilities which may include having the test centre on site.
There are loads of decent trainers in between as well. Itâs just a matter of identifying them reliably.
Itâs up to the buyer to do the research and I always say not to book anything without visiting. The only exception could be booking on rock solid recommendation.

I recomended you donât limit yourself to a small area, I live fairly close (rugby) but having compared some of the northampton trainers, (not all and there may well be some great firms there) I have decided on one further away. When youâre parting with that sort of money you want the best, even if that means traveling. (If you donât want to travel then hgv might not be for you lol)

I would second this. I had an assessment at a local trainers today whuch was ok but I am also visiting PSTT next week based on all the recommendations. Thatâs a good 1.5 hours for me but I think that for the money I will be spending I would rather travel if thatâs the best option.
If you fail it is not just the retest costs but also the time you may need to wait. If your needing a job a better chance of a first time pass could be worth it

This is the view of many. Most of our âtravellersâ book without assessment but some have a day trip to come and have a look around and an assessment to make sure. I believe the mileage record for this is just over 200 miles each way.
The videos have helped some folk decide and visitors are always welcome without appointment. But anyone wanting an assessment must have provisional licence and an appointment.
Hope you enjoy your visit.

I did my class 2 with Hughes, and their reversing area was so small I could only do half of the reverse at any time, and it was regularly interrupted by tnt units hooking up to trailers, as it was a trailer holding area we were using.
I passed though, and rang them again for my class 1, and they were the only one of the 5 I rang that didnât bother to ring me back at all.
Hughes currently have a âbaseâ at junction 13 services (M1 j 13 that is).
And for all the positive opinions of Pete Smythe, I couldnât get anywhere with them either, (also one of the 5).
Eventually, I went with a company based in Letchworth (Herts Roadtrain, then called Herts drivetrain, then heard itâs since closed), but other than them, Powerdriver were on the ball with my phone enquiries, but booking dates were too far ahead for me. The other company was based in some little village I used to drive through, canât remember their name.

At least 5 isnât a busy time of day!
I did my class 2 with Hughes found them good to deal with. But if your looking Northampton area try Carols she is meant to be really good and I ll be doing my class 1 with her not that there was anything wrong with Hughes just she is closer for me.

Not completely sure what you mean but, if you are saying you didnât get a call back from PSTT then I think you must have been really unlucky or just forgot to leave them your number
I canât fault PSTT and thought it was well worth the journey from Berkshire for all the facilities and the help I received

It was âcan I book some training with youâ with a response of âcan you call back on (next working day) as so and so that deals with that isnât in the office at the moâ, twice.

That is really remarkable. With 4 people in the office Monday - Friday I find it difficult to understand how anyone would get that response. The only time that could realistically happen is if the phone was answered out of hours by a trainer or cleaner.
I have asked you to pm with the details so I can look into it as I take this extremely seriously. So far, no response.

Notifications get sent to my old email account, which I check perhaps 3 or 4 times a month.
Had it not been for you replying I wouldnât have noticed I even had a message.
As Iâve had CE for a few years now, access to âdetailsâ would be pretty difficult so I wouldnât worry about it.

So you rang them years ago or this was for a different type of training?
Now I am confusedâŚ
I wouldnât worry about it.
Thanks for that - - after Iâve spent the last few days sweating over this!!!
