Recent C+E Pass

I have recently passed my C+E license but I am now finding it extremely difficult to find work.
All I keep hearing is that I need two years experience due to insurance purposes.
Does anyone know if it is possible to insure my self just as a driver?

where do you live mate

Best of luck,it took me a very long time to find work,i have a licence since 1990,ADR and also paid for my own Dcpc job tax card.
No firms will respond to emails, phoning is expensive,i used to use the free phones in the job centres, but they monitor for abuse.
Some load their car or van with work tools and kit,in case the boss starts you asap,or if some driver was ill the day you call in for a job.
If after euro work, check the health card is in date, was a E11 or something like that,a blue card for discounted health treatment in europe, and the passport is in date too.
Just at the point where you have given up the phone will go,or you will see an ad in the paper and beaten the queue for the the initial interview, google the firm, crib sheet the facts about the firm, that will impress them and show you are keen.
He/she will ask why should they hire you, what are your good and bad points, and so on.

Silly question…have you tried agencies?

They are a little hit and miss, and can mess you around but it might just get you a foot in a door.

Also, have a read through earlier posts on here, Sam Millar, Madguy, scaniasson, they have written about their expoits and what they did to get work…might give you a few ideas

Bottom line…keep at it and be a pain, a door will open

Call as many agencies as you can within your area +20 miles (assuming you have your own transport) and go through their registration process with them…they will want to see you in person and to copy both parts of your licence and digi card so take them with you. They will also get you to sign/fill in forms and bank mandates as well as probably a tacho questionnaire (take your bank details with you too as well as NI details). A pain when doing with more than one agency but a scoosh.

Call them all every Friday afternoon and every Monday morning asking if they have any work for you.

One of them will bite eventually when they are sooooo stuck for a driver, a newbie will cease to be an issue. After the first day or two with no incidents you’re in…keep calling that same agency.

I used this approach day after my C&E licence arrived back in the post…it works.

Good luck.
