Really Peed-off by a training provider

What a lot has been said in this thread!

As the OP and for clarity’s sake, please let me make my feelings clear:

  1. I did not critisise Tockwith’s ability to train drivers. How could I? My post was about my assessment. As I have previously said, I have no axe to grind.

  2. My assessment was carried out by the owner of the business (see my first post and Tockwith’s first post), altough, by their second post they were referring to him simply as ‘the instructor’.

  3. My post was about how I felt after the assessment and the views and comments that went with it. This was not to ‘bash’ anyone but simply to share my experiences with other newbies who may have felt like I did after an assessment, whoever it was with. Some of the subsequent posts have shown that mine was not an isolated incident and some posters have told of experiences with other trainers.

  4. I read Tockwith’s second post as an explanation and apology: “I can only say sorry to Alan”. I responded accordingly: “So, effectively, we are both sorry about some of the events, but that is life”. and “I too wish you well”. At this point I thought the matter was finished, Apologies had been made and accepted and goodwill was evident.

The matter could well have ended here and I thought it had. One poster remarked about the thread (up to that point) by saying especially when its as balanced as this thread seems to be

  1. Another post then appeared from Tockwith. This one was in a different vein altogether. Not, I guess, made by the original Tockwith poster. Various allegations were made and a certain number of the ‘facts’ listed were certainly not as I remember them. Unfortunately, personal attacks were also made. I was saddened to read this post. Suddenly the ethics both myself and a well respected forum member were brought into question. I was left with the strong suspicion that this post had been written by the man who assessed me, the owner of the company.

  2. Soon after came a further Tockwith post asking, “are you getting paid” This was because (apparently) on six seperate occasions I had spoken well of Peter Smythe’s training company.

  3. I referred to Tockwith’s postings as “damage limitation” and “spin”. I felt that this post had several purposes: to belittle me, to smear another forum member’s reputation, and particularly to ‘cloud the waters’ of my original post by introducing totally unrelated matters.

  4. There have been various posts since this with many ‘what ifs’. I have not replied to them because they often barely relate to the purpose of my original post, which was about the way I felt after my assessment at Tockwith.

  5. There has been a hugh amount of support of my posts in the forum (and by PMs) for which I am very grateful.

10, There has been a large amount of critisism of Tockwith Training responses. Whilst I can understand this, I do feel they have largely brought it upon themselves.

Again I will say, the matter could have ended amicably after Tockwith’s apology and my acceptance of it. I sincerely wish it had.

I dont think for one Minute that Alan owes anyone an apolagogy at all :astonished: firstley Ageism came into the comments made by the Training company at his assessment . ok Alan may be 60 yrs young but does that mean that he is to be written off before he starts . for all we know he could be a better driver that a 25 yr old :open_mouth: also you say that trainers feel bad when a cliant Fails perhaps that should read some trainers feel bad …Some think OH WELL JUST HAVE TO PAY AGAIN … :stuck_out_tongue: I myself had a trainer like this who i had 21 hrs with and failed twice . and who lold me a shunt was not a minor (WRONG) and that I would nead a seperate DCPC for my CAT D aswell as my LGV one meaning another 35 hrs in his classroom .(WRONG AGAIN) . John Do you know what it feels like to have your confidence Knocked big time :frowning: Alan does and I do because once that has been done it takes a lot of work and a good trainer to put it right and get you back on track …I dont know Tockwith training at all but I think their reply says it all or am i missing some thing …like CUSTOMER SERVIS SKILLS :open_mouth: .
Best Regards Roy

Yes I had what confidence I had knocked by my trainer he had no confidence in me at all but did nothing about it at all which left me worse & has taken several years to go do it again ( prob later this year when I have the money )

As I am not the tallest ( 147 cm ) everything I suggested to him he totally dismissed although this was for my CE I had passed with same company for my C but with a different instructor

So when I do go back to re do my Ce I will not be using the 1st trainer due to this although this instructor has left will be going with a different 1 & yep have had an assessment with him as well as the others in my area

Just by reading all, and each of the above posts on this subject… has given me the following thoughts…

a) Alan seems to me, (and I have net met him, and he is not paying me) to be a decent chap. His original post was well written, thought out, and did not have the rage often associated with a vicious rant.

b) How good it is that we have this forum.

Interesting reading… congrats Alan on passing.

I would ask that you apologise to them publicly on here

Ehhh, have we both been reading the same posts here? Where do you get the idea that the OP owes an apology?? :unamused:
