Really Daft Relative Newbie Question

There is a village not far from me where, approaching from a particular direction, you either drive 0.7 miles to the delivery point at the other end of the village (but beyond the 7.5 limit), or take a 15 mile detour.

Sorry, but common sense has to be applied here.

The square blue ones are right in what they say!!, it is unsuitable for HGVs, unless you personally know the road and know your truck then its up to you whether you go down there or not but you if you get stuck or you start damaging things then its your head. Sometimes you will have deliveries down there but its still “unsuitable for HGVs”

Except for access means except for a delivery or collection within the weight limit and not accessing the other end of the road because its on your route  There will be another way round.
The weight limits arnt necessarily there for a bridge, the majority of them is because residents dont want trucks using their village as a through road.

There are also length limits on roads as well.

That’s a load of tosh for a start … I have roads round where I live that have that but I don’t know what there like as I have no PRESENT need to go through them EVEN in the CAR so how the hell would I know for a HGV…

How is it a load of tosh?? If you havent been down there in your car then you don’t know the road then do you.

If you’ve been down the road in a car then you know whether or not your truck would fit.

Tippin in Cornwall (there’s a load of roads that say UNSUTIABLE for LARGE VEHICLES being the new preferred wording and a load that says HGV’s or Large goods vehicles.) Got there in a 10mt artic and followed the local school coach down the road and guess what … the road was fine even to the point there were several places to turn a full length artic. the reason for the sign’s …the sides of the road would need a lot of repairing and that came from an old boy that happened to be a local council official. the funny thing was it was the only way to get to about 4 different farms in the area but the signs were at both ends of the road nothing saying except for access to xyz. so unless you know for fact you wont use it Eve if the farmer says yeah you’ll get down here driver

We haven’t been HGV’s for years, we’re LGV’s. Crack on

It’s ok, I know that, just tell the folk that make the signs.

My problem is that I have to rely on a satnav, if I started doing detailed plans of my routes in advance, I’d never get the chance to sleep, I do multidrop, up to 30 drops a day, full wagon, sometimes palletised, but usually handball. They can be in any part of the country, and I don’t always go from a to b to c etc

If I drive past a road that says unsuitable for HGVs, satnav will just tell me to turn around at the next roundabout.

I guess my satnav is only set up for actual physical limits, ie low bridges or specified weight limits.

I’ll just keep plodding on, but thanks for all your comments folks. At least I know I’m not on my own.

Yeah, it was a joke mate. It’s down to you really, I generally avoid them unless I know the road. Park up and go into the view route bit of your sat nav and see if there is a better way round

And no I don’t listen to what anyone says, they can’t drive a truck and they don’t know what an artic can and can’t do.
It’s normally the other way round though, when they say “you won’t be able to get down there” or “you won’t turn it around there” “you’ve got to do this/that” I just say thank you and then do what ive got to do often proving them wrong.

For my first job i was going down them roads with “not suitable for hgv” signs almost every day in a 6wheeler, some were fine even for artics but others were abit tight… The worse roads though were often the ones with no signs at all.
