My main interest in driving is the possibility to pick up work and have the freedom to put it down again should I want to.
Experience has taught me however, that this is rarely truly the case with self employment. There’s a scale of freedom all the way from:
Essentially you are like an employee. You work for a few clients an basically you have to keep working. In fact, it’s more like agency work. You can in theory turn the work down… but in reality you don’t want to be saying no to a client.
…all the way up to the ideal situation I like to romance about, which is:
You can hire or short term lease a truck easily. There is a database you can login to and plan your jobs. You take the jobs you want. When you don’t want to work, you just don’t logon. If you own your own truck you can lease this out through a company that handles all the hassle while you are on your 3 week holiday. Happy days.
So, as a newbie I have no clue…
what’s the situation on this? How far on the spectrum is it for drivers? How does it compare to drivers from other European countries?
This would be no different to agency work on a self-employed basis except you’d have to pay if you caused any damage to the truck you’ve leased and you’d have all the hassle of o-licence and insurance as well.

I can see you’ve done absolutely no research on this before posting . To put it bluntly, your post is about as far detached from reality as you could possibly get. And then some.

in reality you won’t be able to afford to say no to a client ( and some clients you won’t be able to afford to say yes too either )
