Actually i was proving a point to a remainiac on twitter as you can see the guests viewing the forum has shot up a tad, but thought a few on here also needed to see the truth is brexit has nothing to do with how bad the industry is, throwing cheap labour at a bad industry does nothing to improve the shortage of drivers.I am never bored lad
I wasn’t aware of our guest quotient being higher (not something I’ve ever looked at before) I don’t know what it was before but I can accept you’re correct; right this minute there’s 128 guests and about a dozen members online.
How many of these guests are media people looking for the “inside story” of how we spend our massive salaries

Over 450 earlier… Not sure what the norms are either, but maybe one of them is Grant shatts
Whats not to like in this? It fits right in with Britain 21st century where the government rewards bad behaviour, while punishing decent, law abiding people.
As an ex con who was freed in May this year, I think I can offer some insight into this.
Yes not every criminal is a ■■■■■■, robbing murdering ■■■■■ There are some people who just simply made a mistake and deserve a second chance in life.
They will be paying back thier training fee - by contributing to society. You know, income tax, national insurance? That kinda thing. It’s fair to say a lorry driver earning £800+ a week is going to be paying more tax than your average bloke. So yh, they will be paying the fee back.
HOWEVER, having spent 18 months in an open prison myself - trust me. The beurocracy involved will mean very little will get out to actually drive. If a driver goes over hours, and can’t make it back then they are in breach of their ROTL and wont be going back out again anytime soon.
The government will make funding available for it, and the prisons will squander it.
Will prisoners actually be funded fully for HGV? No chance. When I enquired (whilst inside) I got told they can cover my CPC but I will have to pay the rest (my wage was £15 a week).
At best, it will be some loan agreement (just like how they train the inmates to go work on the railways), and they will be tied in to working for DHL or something ( who will of course be giving nice backhanders somewhere to someone).
Brilliant now everyone will assume truck drivers are all xcons.
They should first get the lazy benefits claimer of the dole first.

Yh they should. But them lazy people still have families, dogs, TV and Stella cans to get back to. Very much doubt they are willing to tramp, CPC, 50hour shifts, let alone commute.
Truth of the matter is, you have to have the right attitude. If they lazy/comfortable now, what’s gonna motivate them to get off their ■■■?
It’s never been a better time to seek funding to re train etc. I was on it straight away from May this year, and now passed my mod 1 and 2, awaiting dates for mod 3/4. Am already looking into ADR and see if I can get my class 1 funded too.
Yes I know it’s a touchy subject with some, ■■■■■■ ex con getting a freebie into our profession. But since covid money, it’s never been a better time to get people re training. No1 can make an excuse now. Them lazy people will always be lazy. Would much rather have an ex con gone straight, earning and being productive than a jobless person who is jobless (usually) because of their own attitude?
I suppose if they have done the crime and done the time then they have paid back. If they are in some way reformed then why not give them a chance. Most on here havent been Angels for all of their lives.

LASHHGV:
I been a good boy all my life and ive got nothing. I know of people who arnt so good and have a lot.
So in conclusion i would say crime does pay. Just im not scumbag enough to attempt it.
Crime doesnt pay. But the hours are good.
Ive been retired ten years now, so not been back for a fair while, but during my time if you ever went into Latchmere House prison near Richmond during the day you would always find the place deserted! They were all out learning to drive or driving London Transport buses all over London.
For many years they were the main supplier of drivers to LT, so it’s not exactly a new idea!
Steve
At least the curtains won’t get slashed. They just take the complete truck and contents.

I used to cover a vast number of prisons delivering their “canteen” (treats).
Many of the open prisons I visited (Kirklevington, askham grange, Hatfield grange, Sudbury etc), id have to wait for them returning from their day jobs. Many have cars (Sudbury), bicycles or used the prison mini buses and public transport
More often than not I’d actually be sat at the back of the room when the DHL staff dished it out, or I’d be sat watch TV with the cons. At askham grange the infamous Mrs Canoe actually worked at Iceland in York. But that place was a country house with all mod cons

Please tell us about Mrs. Canoe.
Ive never understood the “make the convicts do it” or “make the unemployed do it”. Dont they see that just drives down wages for the rest of us? Try and think for yourself. Dont just swallow what jacob rees mogg tells you.

All I knew about her was when they called out her name to come forward to pick up her stuff, then the PO would start singing “Row, Row your boat …”
Down at Gartree near Market Harborough the cons would have a habit of standing in the yard pointing up in the air and shouting at the guards “The plane boss, the plane”
Because that’s where the helicopter landed and couple of Prisoners escaped many years ago. I’ve been in prisons as far north of Northumberland, and as far south as Swaleside on the isle of sheppey, west to Risley and east to Hull.
The Cat A nicks such as Frankland, Whitemoor, and full Sutton we delivered to the seperate RID yard (receipt, inspection and dispatch) where the security was the same
