I am of the opinion that these rooms are on many levels illegal, Firstly many are too small for the number of drivers being held, Secondly seating arrangments are often chairs at end of life gathered from other areas of the RDC, Thirdly by gathering so many drivers in such a small space the chance of creating a bio-hazard are elevated to a far greater risk than a careless driver pulling off a bay.
Having made a sweeping statement I had better justify my third point and how I arrive at my conclusions, An insurance company published research in to driving whilst suffering from a heavy cold is the same as a driver having consumed four double whiskies causing a 50% reduction in performance, This was reported in the motoring section of The Telegraph on 4th January 2012.
The common cold virus is football shaped and you can sit 50000 of them side by side and from one end to the other will measure 1mm when sneezed or coughed from a human body a droplet of spittle containing tens of thousand viruses will travel 10 meters and the virus will remain viable for hours.
How many drivers are having their lives put at risk by these rooms ?
Let’s face it you’d have have a cold so serious it would be verging on full blown flu, if that was the case you should/would be tucked up in bed. I heard it tends to be the cold remedies that can make you drowsy?
Stephen228:

Jesus Christ what a stupid thing to say, more chance of dying out on the road than in an RDC but i bet you don’t worry about that,
anyway why are you showing up nil posts when you’ve posted at least once.

depends if it were a post or a pole
Do you mean poll ? That should’nt make any difference as it was just a normal post.
According to the report, MDR-TB has risen sharply within Europe over the last decade and many countries are struggling to manage this increase. Eastern European countries are particularly affected, with 12 of the 14 most affected areas in that region alone.
Multi Drug Resistant Tubercolosis
while you ridicule him, think of the above next time you are shut up in a RDC rest room with a driver from the east of europe! (especially if he starts coughing)
I’ve been in a totally unventilated RDC waiting room before and within 10 minutes I had a thumping headache. I said that I was going outside and they said I couldn’t. I told them that the lack of air was making me ill and I wanted to see their safety rep and then they told me I could wait outside if I wanted.

Solly:
It’s unfortunate but judging by some of the replies on this thread, is it any wonder that the majority of drivers are treated as morons?
There’s nothing we’ll ever be able to do about RDC’s as they’re too big and powerful, they have been a law unto themselves for years so I can understand why drivers get stroppy at threads like this as there is nothing anyone will ever be able to do to change RDC’S rules, sorry!

No need to be sorry…rob…I think you have misunderstood me, but I understand what you’re saying.
Why don’t you take a photo and send them to commercial/ lorry magagzine and see if you can start a “worst waiting room competition”. Naming and shaming should embarress them into doing something, even the newspapers might get involved !!! I can just imagine the Daily Mail front page … you could even mention wages
Probably been tried before
I recall another truckers website investigating RDC complaints from drivers and writing to/meeting with “Supermarkets” concerned, and the outcome.
Don’t know if it’s acceptable to link to the issue on this forum. Maybe the “TN mods” can confirm if it’s ok to do so or not.
