Ok, so we’ve all heard the story of the driver that was running out of time on the bay.
Driver warns that they need to finish sharpish or he’ll be sleeping on the bay, warehouse staff take too long, driver sleeps on the bay, warehouse staff tell him to move and start making loads of noise in trailers next to driver, warehouse staff or driver then phone police and police turn up and close off bays either side of driver so he can get his sleep.
First it was ‘someone who worked at our place did it’… But then, another driver ‘it happened to me, I was bringing a load of … back from … (Europe) delivering to … and they did it and it happened.’
So, I argued that it’s just an RDC story, one of the oldest in the book next to all being ex- sas / sbs / (insert special forces name here) and JUST missing THAT boat…
I gets a load of stick and abuse, which may or may not have been deserved… So.
CAN it happen? Is it likely? Personally I say BULL!
Own Account Driver:
Odd they always get a copper that understands rest and drivers hours but never says just drive out the gate and I’II write on your printout or disc.
Can’t believe you’ve got me even thinking about this it’s just so obviously total crap.
This was my argument.
Well, that and also truckstops, services and layby’s… You know, with fridge drivers taking their 45 or whatever, but of course that wouldn’t happen would it?
Like I said, I called ‘BULL’ on it, and got a right torrent of abuse, so attitudes flared up a bit then. Poor little ex-SAS driver wasn’t believed off non-forces driver
If you’re at 14hr 50m, you’ll magically be suddenly turned around, and kicked out of the gate to overnight on the service road…
What do you think all those foreign wagons are doing there?
The police have no authority to close bays in an RDC unless a crime has been committed.
edit:
I suppose the police could possibly close off part of an RDC if they had reason to believe a crime was about to be committed, but that certainly wouldn’t include motoring offences or tachograph offences.
You have a few RDC’s in your force? Jeez, you guys are really branching out now. Personally I think that catering for the publics penchant for pastry products and hair care consumables should rank slightly lower down your list to knicking baddies!

I heard a new one circulating the RDC’s ( well presumably) whilst on my final 7 hours of sucking eggs(DCPC course) that the VOSTAPPO or whatever they like to call themselves these days are now issuing fines FPN’S of £50.00 for each pallet that is insecure(not strapped) obvious bull , but the guy who spouted it seemed convinced it was true
As for the i’ve only got an 1 hr left on my hours to get tipped/loaded and park up for my 9/11 off otherwise i sleep on your bay, i think would result in you being told to re book the next day or being tipped /loaded pronto, But would i choose to have 11 off in a noisy RDC not a chance, i would refuse to move (if out of time) let them phone the cops and after explaining the situation to the police ,I’m confident that they would sign my chart(printout) to say that they had authorised me to move off site to a safe parking place not forgetting to extend my daily rest period by 2 hrs for every interuption
I heard that. I was talking to another driver who said he was banned from an Asda RDC because he ran out of hours and went to sleep on a bay. Long story short, police were called, arguments ensued, driver was allowed to spend the night on the bay.
Swampey2418:
Tommy your probably fined theres truth in the one about VOSA checking loads are secured correctly
Ah but not @ £50 a pop per every pallet that is found not to be secured/strapped down, you get done for an insecure load which covers every pallet on your vehicle you only get 1 fpn/fine not upto 26 for each pallet on the vehicle
So, there’s no doubt in ANYONE on here’s mind that this is ■■■■■■■■?
Cool…
I will point out though, that on a few deliveries at a company on fridge work, where you had to hand your keys in and go through a prison style turnstile to the drivers waiting room, I’d told them that I was close to my hours, tacho already on break, so if not finished by time I was out of hours, I would not be changing it from break for the next 9hrs,. couldn’t give a ■■■■ about the other bays though, losing 1 was enough for them to always get me finished.
I once met a T’net member at a Tesco RDC, he told me about having a night out in a corner of their yard, (as he was out of hours) that the shunters coned off for him so he wasnt disturbed, i laughed and said yeah, theres some bullshyters on Trucknet, he said, ‘It really happened to me… twice’
I have whitnessed this myself at DHL diagio

If you don’t operate an efficient distribution system then those telecopic batons aren’t in the right place for when a newspaper seller walks past on their way home.
