Rar - robinson transport (robo) ipswich

I knew robbo when he was a shunter for w c carters nice chap.

I remember ra robbinson , used to be a good friend of jock cowan , I can just remember going in his yard with dad and he was tearing strips of off one of his drivers my dad was driving for jock at the time , from the things I used to hear he was strict but you had good trucks to drive and were always left hookers ? I can remember the subbie who had an ex robbo truck pulling for jock as well

That’ll be Paul Judd! A mate of my dads.

Just looked at this thread ,I took some of these photos of epu300t,the c reg when new had a matched pair if I recall correctly.also had a 6x2 141 which was metallic green before the it was painted into the rar livery ,also scan truck did the maintenance on his three iveco tractors ,I think these would have been 220.48 the twin turbo types.
If I can find the photos I will post them.
Very sad that he passed away earlier this year

Goaty:
I can remember the motors in the yard, the Grove in Ipswich. Dad drove for B&B for a while (also the Grove). If i recall there was a scrap yard and an ice cream van firm in there too.

Anyway, a mate of Dad’s had an x-RAR F12, left ■■■■■■ as an o/d and pulled for “Jock” Cowan. The F12 ended up being stretched into a wrecker and, i beleive belonged to Franky Drain in Whip st, Ipswich.

I had a brew with Paul, my Dads mate, yesterday.
He bought AOO199L from RAR. This had a coach diff and was a real flyer apparently. He traded this into a dealer on the North Circular for his F12, UMD46S, also a left ■■■■■■. The engine blew on it eventually. It was at Franky Drains being repaired the next day, when his father died. A ■■■■■ week. He sold it to Mr Drain and packed up. It was this F12 that was stretched and turned into a wrecker. So not an ex RAR motor after all. I was once recovered by it in the late 90’s after breaking down on no1 roundabout at Felixstowe, by then it was a Q plate.

Anyone any stories / pictures of RAR.
one of my favourites - what a colour scheme - tideeeeeeeeee

wot a line up!!

new at Stowmarket

Robo,

I had EPU300T bought it off ‘Hot to Trot’ Tony out of Ipswich

Here it is after an accident! It had an accident whilst with me too it partially rolled on to it’s side just before Frejus, French side.

I think this was an ex RAR truck too

Or was it this one?

Regards Pat

let me get this right, when im back home with not much work i do a bit for a friend of mine,t eh company who supplies the work, i think its rodneys daughter owns and runs with her husband, not een in the office yet there cos its all night work, but apparently theres a couple of RAR pictures on the wall, when i get home ill see if i can get ny copies of them

i didnt think they did continental wok though, guess i was wrong

Some nice old Volvos there me lad

A company I worked at did some work for Rotoline

Robbo didn’t do any work abroad, even though the trucks were kitted out to look like they did.

That yellow Scania with the white spoiler you can just see behind the pic in Stowmarket is a Goodways motor in Morline colours.

Errr, Hello out there. I’m all new to this but want to say a big thanks to you all for your posts. I was interested to read that Frank Drain’s wrecker was an ex RAR truck as I helped in the convertion and if I remember right it was repossessed from an owner driver and was painted white and left hand drive. Where any of RAR’s trucks painted white ■■? I rememer trying to work on there non tilt cab crusader, a real pain
Thank you all for taking me down memory lane.
