range

anyone live in the Chippenham area, cos I keep wondering what the problem is when I see the posters NO TO RANGE whats that about as far as I am aware its not near any residential properties[I could be wrong]and it will be on a major A road,[again as far as I am aware]

NIMBY’s
Bet they will be in there if it gets built.

NIMBYs complaining about a proposed RDC. Apparently it will create 1000 jobs so that means the local benefit claimants will be against the development.
No idea who Range are though.

yeah I thought the same

You have to understand Nimbys turn up after something has been built - then whine about it as if it had burst into life overnight and smashed through their front windows, deflowering their favourite daughter.

I live next door to a prize NIMBY.He objects to school buses and agricultural vehicles. No one asked him to buy a house 500 yards from a school and a similar distance from the fields.I think that I am bloody fortunate to live here ,well apart from the neighbour.Had to drive through Edinburgh to day flaming nightmare.

a few years ago my dad and I used to go to a breakers yard for a scout around and possibly to buy parts,it was a good source ,then a piece of land is sold literally a hundred yards from it, flats are built on that land, within a year the breakers yard was forced to close because of NIMBYS,the whole area is now flats and houses, dont know if anyone came from that neck of the woods but it was atkinsons in merton, London, atkinsons was probably the best breakers yard in that area

Exactly

No to the Range, is plans for a building the size of Terminal five at Heathrow, Nimbies have said huge lorries will cause congestion
at school drop off and pick up times.
Nimbies said lorries will cause jams in the town center.
Lorries will deliver all day and night ,making noise and pollution.
Up to 1000 new jobs, don’t believe that Nimbies said, up to could mean one job created.
They say the jobs will be low skilled.
They say once one project gets in by the natural barrier of the A 350, others will follow blighting the area, why can’t it be built off junction 17, M,4.

I agree. No to Range.

Some of their yards are too small. Appliances Online are much better.

Fair enough, didn’t realise it was an RDC too. In that case I agree, Chippenham is bad enough to drive through as it is, a huge great depot won’t help.

but as I said though [and again I could be wrong]are they not building it on a major A road away from the town

but as I said though [and again I could be wrong]are they not building it on a major A road away from the town, after writing this first part I just looked at the size from the link given and I have to say it is bxxxxy big and I agree on one thing, the traffic is bad enough in the mornings when I have been through there early and it will get a lot worse with the range depot

That whole section is often gridlocked from about 9am onwards. It’s the main route around Chippenham without going through the town centre. If you come from Devizes, Calne, Trowbridge, Melksham, Bath or Bristol, you are going to use that stretch of road. It’s just not a sensible place to put it, especially when there are lots of other sites right on the motorway between there and Swindon that would be much better suited.
I know these places have to go somewhere, but I’m just not convinced there is the right place.

I bet it will get built and open for 6 months then the company will go bust due to internet shopping.

Missus used to buy the odd craft bits and bobs there but I’ve never understood the place, always seemed like a huge pound shop that was bigger than it had stuff to fill it.

The article states truck using the town is not correct, they would access the site using the bypass from all directions.
The claim of wildlife being effected once built is not a valid point, wildlife adapts to it’s surroundings.
Look how many birds of prey are seen on the side of the motorway.
They are worried the town will turn in to Swindon, with it’s aircraft hanger size industrial buildings.

Well for once I agree with the locals. Off the M4 seems so sensible compared to this. Yes I know I live in Oz now, but I know what it’s like to be bullied because we’re just the little people that can’t afford to put up a huge fight against aris holes that just ride roughshod over us. Before you know it, the whole of the UK will be one huge rdc. I’m for me sedative now.

I tend to agree with the objectors. This is going to be a massive development causing enormous disruption while it is built and on going congestion once finished. Some people are going to get very rich indeed while local and national taxpayers and customers of the utility companies foot the bill for road improvements, extra road maintenance, new sewers, substations etc, etc. Once this is built other speculators will see it as a precedent for their equally enormous proposition.

What are the people of Chippenham getting in return? another Homebase/B&Q style operation. The real possibility of another seagull (flies in ■■■■■ all over you and flies off again). The company is listed as one of the UK’s fastest growing companies, but operating in an already crowded market selling probably a large percentage of foreign produced goods. This development will get sold on the number of potential jobs created, but they will all be low paid, low skilled jobs of benefit to politicians wishing to big themselves up, but of little value to redundant skilled local people. Many of the jobs will end up being bussed-in foreign agency workers, or place greater demands on the local council to provide social housing for the population influx. Meanwhile future market trading conditions potentially dictate financial worries, a merger or a takeover leading to closure of the site. All of this being of no concern to those who have made a killing.

Someone in the local council must be getting a huge backhander for planning on that to even be considered.
