Range Transport , London N5

I went for an interview with Mr Range as assistant Transport Manager, he was quite harsh/sharp back then, wasted a complete day for me as he decided virtually straight away it was too far away to commute, why he bothered asking in for an interview knowing that is beyond me. I got some photos out of the sort of lorries and heavy Haulage stuff I’d been involved in and he just said I’ve seen enough photos of lorries to fill this room so i don’t need to see anymore!

Needless to say I wouldn’t have accepted the position even if I’d have been offered it, surprised there’s no photos anywhere as they ran quite a few motors back then, a lot of them on heavy Haulage type work predominantly for the construction industry but I do remember seeing even there Ford D series around quite a way out of London when I was driving, they had a few decent motors but had their fair share of ropey ones tbh.

Hi used to work quite alot with Range Transport if I remember rightly I used to talk to Simon and Kevin in their office , both went on to work for Hallets Silbermann

Did the Wembley contract bring an end to Range Transport, the main contractor for the stadium went bust owing Range a substantial amount of money which I believe they could not survive with the loss.

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone out there remembers Range Transport from London, they used to run dark red/ maroon coloured lorries with dark yellow/gold lettering. My late father Tony Moore worked for them in the mid 80s and I spent much of my youth on the road with him which was absolutely fantastic for a young teen and I have some fantastic memories. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of any of the Range Fleet that they would be willing to let me have a copy of as, apart from the memories, I don’t have any pics (too busy having a load of fun lol). I’ve managed to track down pictures from all of the other haulage companies my dad worked for but am finding the Range fleet hard to come by. If anyone can help me out please email me at krissmoore1@live.co.uk. Thank you in advance

A firm I worked for did a bit of work alongside Range, it was when they were doing the dry docks in preparation for Canary Wharf, that was mid to late 80s, I took quite a few loads of Jib sections down there and there were always plenty of their motors about, they were on the City Airport job too IIRC.

I remember one of their drivers, a little old Scottish bloke, he had a B series ERF with sliding windows in the doors, he had a little Jack Russell type dog with him and it had grabbed a tree branch on a country lane and went flying out of the cab  I think it was at the site of Ashford Truckstop, we were taking the pilings down for the foundations
